I have Zone 1 routes from half the possible stations - you can see here! I have some quite hard ones left though...

Yes :p

Given that you and Geoff created this forum at least one of you should bear responsibility for what it has become. Besides which, if you don't turn up how can any of us buy you a pint for keeping the site and forum running for all these years..?

p.s. this thread deteriorated quickly... can we go back to attendance list for this event now?

Excessive planning! I insist on a ritual route-burning and/or Thanes dunking!
Part of the fun of the Z1 challenge is the spontaneity to deal with it on the day, not to have all the options pre-planned and/or rehearsed.

i agree part of the fun is trying to plan a route on the way to the start station. Saying that over the years I have gathered routes from all zone 1 stations.

Four points:
1) These plans are almost certainly flying out of the window as the Tube is unpredictable after 8am on a weekday and 12pm on a weekend - all my records were done on Saturday mornings!
2) Many people have "circular routes". To use the same route year after year is a crime.
3) None of these are timed, and all of these were written in 30 seconds or thereabout.
4) Should Aldgate come out, I don't want to be one of the myriad finishing at Aldgate East...

Do you want to win, or be interesting, primarily?

Be interesting! And win if I can, but since I'm already the Zone 1 record holder, it's not quite as important...

So your not that bothered about trying to better your time. Or more important get close to your time from a randomly picked station which may not give optimium routes.

If you don't try to win someone could beat your record. And the rest they say is history.

I'm not going to get close to my time, because Bond Street is closed to the Central Line, which I find difficult to plan around, as I have discovered.

Who says a circular route will give you a good time? It shows lack of imagination and an inability to plan on the spot. Being interesting is always a gamble which can pay off well too - look at your NR Zone 1, for example!

I've achieved what I was intending to, which was get this thread back on track. Nothing like a controversial statement.

Nobody said they had or have circular routes and for certain stations a circular route workers really well. And I have certenly done interesting even coming up with a route that only visited Kings cross once. Also routes that avoided the Paddington run.

It's just a case of over 8 years of tube challenging I have managed to plan routes for all zone 1 stations.
