Third question then:

Had Scott arrived at the South Pole?

(No movement on this so I'll go for a fourth...)

Does the event predate the Salisbury rail crash?

OK – I’ll have a crack:

- Where I am – Just past milepost 171 on Wellington Bank travelling at approx 100mph.
- When I am – 9th May 1904
- What I am – A steam locomotive
- Who I am (what my name is) – City of Truro
- How I am in 2014 (what state I am in) – On static display at Shildon Locomotion museum, not in working order due to boiler leakage issues.
- Why I am remembered in 2014 to young children – You appeared as a character in the book “Duck and the Diesel Engine”, part of “The Railway Series”, the first appearance of a real steam engine in this series.

We have a winner!! In 25 questions...

In the Thomas the Tank Engine storyline, though many real engines (City of Truro, Flying Scotsman, Stepney etc. - not to mention Mallard and Stephenson's Rocket in the later ones) appear in the books, only City of Truro and Stepney make it into the TV series.
This is because the books and TV series are fundamentally different - the railway of the books is physically connected to the British Rail Furness Line at Barrow-in-Furness, spawning stories such as "Gordon Goes Foreign", while the railway of the TV series is set on a magical island totally removed from reality.

And the funny thing now is that I regularly coast down Wellington Bank at 100mph - an everyday occurrence.

Well done Urzzz1871 - will you be setting another one? Or have we finally run out of question words?
