Which train service am I on? #5 (in the siding)

Can you tell where it is yet?

So, is this a statement, or do I take it as a question? :?

Correct! I’d expect the local lad to be the one who’d get it in the end – well done, tractakid. It was, indeed, the 1847 London Midland Service from Milton Keynes Central to London Euston. You managed to solve it before I finished my cheese, too.

Before we leave this thread, (and tractakid starts a new one?), there’s one more thing to sort. I didn’t get on this train at MKC. Can you crack the enigma of where I joined the service?

Correct! It was indeed Bletchley. I’d broken my journey there for a couple of hours. I thought the word ‘enigma’ might give it away....

I didn’t visit Bletchley Park though (not open at that time of day), but had a look round the town. Not quite what I was expecting.

And I bought some cheese (and other groceries) from the nearby Sainsbury’s before catching the 1847!

Stop press:

Cheese was finished Wednesday evening, and the first of the whisky miniatures was opened Thursday evening.

Robbie,

You would have been rather better off getting the train just before it, as it's a lot faster.

Interesting you should say that. I did consider the one before at the time, but decided against it for the following reason:

I was travelling on an off-peak ticket, and the previous train had left Birmingham within LM's restricted time. I wasn't 100% sure whether this affected me (as my journey involved several train companies), but I decided to play it safe, just in case a friendly inspector queried it!
