Well done and hard luck. Although if you had to fail to beat the record, it was gratifying that you were only one second outside my time of three weeks ago.

I've updated the top times table listed in the Tube Challenge Chat bit of the forum. However, the implication from your post is that it may not have been a solo effort. If you had anyone else with you doing the full 270, let me know and I'll add their names to the list.

Well done Geoff good to see the times coming down again. It looked for a while that Sub 17hour times were but a distant memory.

Full Network Challenge times are coming down in the same way athletic world records are.

Does this mean you're all on steroids? #tenuouslink

sorry point I was trying to make it had been a year since anyone had gone sub 17 Hour, then we get 2 full networks in the space of 3 weeks that manage it.

You're quite unlucky; it always breaks on you whenever you get to a certain place. I have commuted for eight years now (and challenged for one) and delays are rarer.

HT, I don't think it would be helpful for you to comment on the tube's reliability in future FNC attempt threads. We all know where you stand, and it's not the most sympathetic thing to say after someone has been let down after 15+ hours of hard work. All right? :)

No hard feelings of any kind, I just think it is getting a bit silly now.

As I said in write up of my attempt three weeks ago, there were four significant service disruptions that I heard about, three of which affected me to a greater or lesser extent. Like Geoff's attempt, without a particular one of these disruptions I would have been virtually guaranteed a 16h33m time and a good chance of a 16h23m time. If none of them had happened, who knows?

While I freely admit the exact route I took would not work so well on a weekday, on a Saturday there are considerable restrictions on the starting options due to a much reduced early morning service. Having learnt from my Saturday experience, I think I can now amend the route a bit so that that a revised version does work much better on a weekday.

Ah yes, I remember my journeys when I was 5 years old as if they were yesterday as well ;)

i'm sure Nigel won't mind me saying this because he's admitted it himself - but his Saturday route wouldn't work on a weekday because of timetable differences. Likewise, our weekday route wouldn't work on a Saturday due to the different start that we did. Therefore (pedantic as it may seem) i've listed NIgel's 270 on my site under a 'Saturday' category and everyone else's on a Monday-Friday. But yes Nozza, sub-17's are with us again! (i knew what you meant, s'okay)

Come to think about it, if I was being a complete idiot about it - what with that "Who's in the 270 club?" thread, i suppose we should now stake a claim for 'Fastest 270 on a non-exhibition day service', attempt. Yes, there. We win that. Let me go and update my signature ...
I should point out that the current record was actually as well delayed by a EDGEWARE ROAD FAILURE! so blaming the network in this case is wrong!

Indeed, I do like how people seem to think that our run was an absolutely perfect run on a perfect day with no delays!

Andi, I think it's a little facile to say that because you achieved a world record despite delays, people shouldn't blame the network for their failure to beat the record. Surely, you were successful because you either had a route that had enough leeway in it that the delay didn't put you behind record pace, or you had enough luck later in the day to counteract the effect of the delay?
