Music keeps coming up on this forum in a variety of threads, but I don't think we've ever had one single thread dedicated to our members' musical talent. So I thought I'd start one, and I'll go first.
My instrument is the guitar. I've been playing since I was a teenager and have been through a number of guitars since then. My main two guitars are a 1993 Fender Strat in red (it's in need of some repair almost 20 years later), and a 2010 Gibson Les Paul in black. I've also got a nice black acoustic number, as well as an old 12-string that doesn't have 12 strings any more.
I always wanted to be able to play the piano, but as I never had lessons when I was younger I feel I'm past being able to learn properly.

The subject line is a little conducive to abuse but there you go!
I can't play guitar very well but I like the noise it makes. I enjoy making a noise with some other people in our punk-pop band. We don't gig very often due to us living all over the place - Leeds, Manchester and London. I've got a cheap Les Paul copy with a lovely green/blue maple top, a very very cheap Korean Strat copy that's now covered in random colours and glow in the dark stars, and an Epiphone black SG that is covered with rainbow sparkly stars.
I would prefer to be a drummer but can only do a disco beat at the moment. Other than that, I have played the glockenspiel, tin whistle, recorder, ocarina, squeezebox and crumhorn (another ripe subject for abuse)!

I've been trying to find the only known recording of me playing the guitar available on the internet. Forum members of a certain vintage may remember Chris Presswell's "Barry Scott and the Cillit Band", and their seminal single, "Christmas" from 2006. I recorded all of the electric guitar heard on that song, including the epic guitar solo. Sadly, I can't find the bloody thing ANYWHERE on the internet. Anyone?

I play the cello, reasonably. I have played for 12 years, most of that time with a rubbishy rented one, but acquired a nice early 20th century one last year. I enjoy playing it, and am really glad to have had money invested in me from a young age to learn. I have weekly lessons, I play in a baroque group, and I play in the church band.
I'm also good at plastic instruments

(guitar hero/rock band) being able to play each 4 instruments at expert. I have discovered that skills on a plastic drumkit are transferrable, with a little practice, to a real drumkit. I can therefore keep a steady beat on the drums.
I also have a keen interest in music theory, and cannot help analysing every piece of music I listen to. I find it increasingly difficult to enjoy musically uninteresting songs, eg, 4 chords in 4/4. I am always wanting to hear music that pushes boundaries.
I have messed about with composition. I'm not great. I dream of coming up with something truly original.

I learnt the trombone in my youth, but it's languished in a cupboard for some years. I sing in a small local chioir. We're inexperiencecd but enthusiastic and sing anything from madgrigals to pop songs via Mozart. Our latest conductor has got it into his head that we're not as crap as we think we are (we're still trying to convince him otherwise!) and has pushed us beyond what we thought we could do. We still enjoy it, but it does feel a bit like boot camp now!

Adham and Anthony Smith have both written and performed many excellent tune related songs, as those of us who were at the last R15 start at Edgware Road will concur
