Just started watching this very interesting programme on C4. It's true revelations from LU staff, portrayed by actors, and has dealt almost solely with the 'good service' lie so far.
Apparently the whole 'good service' thing is taken from an average of delays across all lines so I imagine that it's where it comes from. I guess if you have a 10min delay on one line, it'll average out to no delays across 10 lines.
Go figure...

I'm not sure that is quite right as they list the service level separately for each line?

Good service is based on the average delay (excessive gap) across all trains on any specific line.
I can't remember the actual figures but say the gap between trains is normally 2 mins. At 5 mins between trains it might go to minor delay. At 10 mins between trains it might go to serious delays.
This explains why you may have serious delays between A and B westbound only and a good service on the rest of the line. E.g. Between A and B, the gaps between trains is 10 mins but in the other direction trains are only 1 min apart because they are catching up with where they should be.
There were a number of mistakes in the program yesterday like NOC being called National Operations Control when in fact its Network Operations Control. (or something like that).

It's the same everywhere on railways. You should hear the way platform staff on our region moan about stuff when you're sat with them.

Drivers messrooms are so funny, they always find something to bitch about. I don't understand it, the money and the time off is very cushy and the shifts are hardly horrendous, maybe when/if I qualify then i'll change my tune
