What HT appears to have done is moved DOWN the chart, towards the horizontal centre-line. This means that he has become more liberal socially-speaking. The higher up you are, the more right-wing you are.

Movement left and right across the chart indicates your position economically-speaking.

Don't ask me how they arbitrarily placed these people in the chart. After all, they couldn't take the test themselves ...

I'll tell you what I think it would have been like in 1992 if Labour had won.

(1) They would have devalued immediately, the day after the election. Roy Hattersley has gone on record saying that this was their policy (although of course they denied it during the election campaign). There would have been no Black Wednesday, but I'm sure the right-wing press would have had a field day comparing it to the 1967 devaluation and saying "you can't trust Labour".
(2) They would have had two major constitutional bills to get through Parliament: the bill ratifying the Maastricht Treaty which the previous Conservative government had signed up to, and a bill introducing a Scottish Parliament. As they'd almost certainly have had a tiny majority (or no majority at all) it would have been legislative hell.

It was probably a good election to lose.

I doubt it, as there haven't been any tributes to him on BBC News.
