Have you seen the refurbished D stock carriages?

As some may know, refurbished D78 stock carriages are being introduced into service.

Afew trains have been totaly done and are too going into service.

Whilst working at Acton Depot earlier in the year I saw afew refurbished cars being delivered by road, through our site, into Ealing Common Depot.

They do look neat and I hear that, as with the Met & Picc refurbishments, the public are generaly (tho wrongly) thinking they are new trains!

Some of the cars however have only been externaly done and thus still have the warming 70's decor, but keep an eye out for the new interior ones and see what you think.

At time of writing I know of a 'mixed up' train of original and refurb cars, which has been raising afew eyebrows. It made me look twice!

the new district line stock are pretty cool, very vibrant green colour and i like the dotmatrix display on the outside. we caught one at ealing broadway during our tube relief attempt

didn't realise met trains were refurbished though...

yeah the met trains (A60 & A62) are in fact the oldest in service on the network and would be going to scrap around now had they not been given a new lease of life under the refurb' scheme. They should now be around for another 10-15 years.

I agree it is handy having the dot matrix indicators on the refurbished District D's. I found the doorbell sound the doors now make quite funny :D

As good as it is, I do find the new interior on the D's is not as warming or welcoming as the late 70's decor. Tho as outdated and drab it has been starting to look recently.

I went on a refurbished D78 train a few weeks ago and was suprised at the difference. Compared to the unrefurbished trains, these are completely different. New interiors, seats, LED displays and even a door warning signal. The automatic voice is also cool. I'd prefer going on these trains, than the unrefurbished trains because i hate getting stuck in the doors. lol

Aren't all the 'A's 'C's and 'D's across all SSLs being replaced by these 'S' stock at some point (no matter how far off that is)?

2009 apparently ... we wait in anticipation.

Probably a bit later. The 1967ts will be replaced from 2009.

I thought I'd read somewhere that the proposed date for 1967ts was 2009 and then all SSL stock being replaced around 2013?

I thought the A stock were disappearing when the SSLs were re-configured to incorporate 'The Teacup'? So, whenever that is.

No - the Metropolitan line's A stock won't be affected by a T-Cup service - if it ever happens.

The A stock will start to be replaced by the S stock in approx 2010.

The S-stock from the computer-generated pictures appears to have less seats and more standing space - trying to jam more people in no doubt...

I was under the impression that some of these trains were to be fully walk-through. Is this not the case?

The "space-train" on show at the Acton Town Museum Depot is completely walk-through, and Hakan & I were both very impressed with it. So if the S stock end up anything like that, I won't be complaining about losing a few seats. It'll also be easier for us Tube Challengers if we scrape a connection only to realise we're completely at the wrong end for our next one.
