Mornington Crescent - 2006 Trellis Anniversary Edition

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ BEFORE PLAYING

As you all know, 2006 marks the anniversary of that venerable icon of MC, Mrs Trellis, playing in her first professional tournament. No one is sure exactly WHICH anniversary it is, but we know that her anniversary will be held at some point during the year (thanks to the statisticians for that fact).

To celebrate the old crone's achievement, this game shall be played continually until some point in 2006. For want of a better date, I suggest my birthday - April the 15th as the earliest date this game may finish. Of course, we may continue after this date in order to edify Mrs Trellis further.

Remember folks, no one may play the winning move "Mornington Crescent" before this date, even if someone leaves it wide open will an ill-advised triple reverse pike with token exchange on a Thursday.

Anyone who plays MC BEFORE April the 15th will be banned from posting on the entire forum until that date (and I mean it - we will NOT tolerate people making a mockery of Mrs Trellis)

So, without further ado, we begin with a Trellis favourite:

I would like to clarify that when tubeguru says "play Mornington Crescent", he means "invoke the use in the Game of the Station or Blot that thenceforthly shall be thus as Mornington Crescent", and not "play the game known as Mornington Crescent".

Edit from Tubuguru - that has now been clarified in the opening post.

HIGH BARNET (Denson opening gambit).

May I join in this game as it could be a long one? I'm quite rusty on the rules I'm afraid, so may ask for help as I go along, and I never bothered to learn the Stovold conventions as they looked soooooo dull, although I know that experts such as yourselves make good use of them.

Anyway, from High Barnet, I'll simply take my blue token by shooting down the Northern (after a long delay of course, in real-time) carefully stopping just before the junction to get to:

Rusty on the rules eh? I hope you're not rusty on the rails or your line velocity will hamper you later on.

Hm! Average line differential is well under the Avocado constant in this case, of 6.022x10^23 stations per line, meaning I am limited to the far east of the District.

thats quite a high differentiation there, therefore that line is quite fragile. i'm moving far away from that...

I had such good plans, but sadly the District line is still too fragile to cross, so I'll play it safe and head to BRIXTON.

Crossing the District line at this point would naturally invoke a triple-threat spoon of proportionate disparity when solved in conjunction with the theory of relativity.

So we're going to play

The north-soth divide is becoming quite even, so integrating between Zones 2 and 5 allows me to solve for one Maths token:

To maintain parity I'll go for

That inverts the spin of Oxford Circus.

Comprising two Up and one Down token, I shall opt for

EUSTON (Bank branch).

while we're here, i think we can safely say that despite no one being able to invoke mornington crescent at this point, invoking euston (charing cross branch) in this situation is also totally unacceptable, taking advantage of the lack of risk for a never ending charm loop. mrs trellis would not have been happy.

therefore, i'll just do what i would always do.

Yes, we need to ensure that just because MC cannot be played, we can make sloppy moves like the one you just mentioned.

I'm going to play the recently ratified Jose Mourinho Gambit and play

which i will counter with the secondary arse wenger reversal (monday to fridays before 8pm only, and as of some time next year.) as your district line crossing brought us forward in time for a while, it counts.

It counts for NOTHING in a closed cycle such as this! With all blots south of the Line now in Contempt, it would be an unwise Crescenteer indeed who plays the Drayton card so soon after the reclamation of a Death token!

Please refer to Stovold 4:136-141.

136 begins "And Trellis said "Those who shall pick the Death token within the opening ten moves of a delayed-Crescent game shall be smote down with great vengeance and FUUUURIOUS anger..."

"...and then Stovold said "so he says, you can't do THAT with contact lenses!! But seriously, folks,

ALDGATE EAST."

So endeth the Initial Testament of Stovold.
