doing crosswords is illegal?

Post by zeibura »

do railway byelaws apply on the tube? because according to number 6.3, doing crosswords and sudoku etc. is actually illegal, regarde...

No person shall write, draw, paint or fix anything on the railway.

the wording here throws me because if it were referring to graffiti, surely it would have to be worded "any part of the railway". all the other references in the byelaws that say "on the railway" refer to things which can only imply "while travelling on it".

so i'll remember this in future...

Z is perfectly corrrect in pointing out the abiguity here.

The wording should read "to the railway", as "on the railway" implies travelling and therefore can be used by a clever lawyer in any court of law to absolve anyone found writing things on walls on a technicality.

So poor old Tox could have got off lightly if he had a brain in his head.

In fact, simply saying "to the railway" would also be a bit sketchy. They need to re-word that rule completely. I'd do it for them but I'd have to charge my hourly rate ...

hah good point about Tox, although i think there's another stating that you can't soil or damage equipment - whether writing on walls counts or not i'm not sure. it's just the fact that this byelaw actually stretches to include doing crosswords...

and i wasn't supporting it dustmask, hence the ""!

What happened to Tox? It didn't hit the news this far north.

he got fined, something ridiculous like £1,000 per tag initially but he must have been allowed to negotiate that. he was also given an asbo which said he wasnt allowed back on the tube, ever

Needless to say, he plucked up the courage..

Umm, yes, I had worked out who he was - I have looked out of the windows on one of the above surface lines. I was just wondering what the outcome of the prosecution was.

Thanks for the link Zeibura.
