On-the-ground reconnaissance work taking place. Timetable analysis suggests a sub-55m time is feasible.

Hmm. I do think that is open to negotiation. Perhaps there could be an upper tier of this counting it as one and a lower tier counting it as two.

As I've mentioned before I can't see how interpreting it as one stop instead of two actually offers any advantage at all (as they are so close together) so I think the point is moot. Do please keep the debate open though. :)

Ah yes, but only in that scenario.

Well, I see it’s been over three years since an entry on this topic. And since then, the Nottingham Express Transit network has expanded considerably, with new branches to Clifton South and Toton Lane. I guess that means the record has been reset!

So, it’s about time someone logged a time for a completion – how about me? The date was Wednesday 13th July 2016, and after a large breakfast at my hotel in Beeston, armed with my Robin Hood travelcard, I caught a tram to Toton Lane. I used the loo, then re-boarded the same tram, and as the doors closed at 9:15:05am, I started the clock…

Toton Lane  Old Market Square
  • “Oh, what a lovely place! Let’s get off and have a look around here briefly!”
So I did, for about half an hour. Then:
Old Market Square  (via Shipstone St) Hucknall
Hucknall  Highbury Vale
Highbury Vale  Phoenix Park
Phoenix Park  David Lane
  • “I need the loo! There must be some around here!”
And there were – however, I had to walk about ten minutes to find them, then eight minutes back.
But it was worth it. Soooo worth it.
    Then:
David Lane  (via Hyson Green Market) The Forest
  • And then for the next eight hours or so, I focussed on other things. Hey, I wasn’t just in Nottingham to do the N.E.T. challenge; I was here for a day out! This involved visiting the City of Caves, a drink in Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem (reputedly England’s oldest Inn), a Centrelink bus tour of the city, trips to Arnold and West Bridgford, visiting three WHSmith stores, spying out Trent Bridge and The City grounds, plus doing lots of other things too numerous to mention.

It’s important to note that during this time, I didn’t use any private transport…

Eventually ended up at Nottingham Station, and to the tram stop:
Nottingham Station  Clifton South

…and, foot on platform, I stopped the clock at 8:07:25pm, making a total time of 10h 52m 20s !!!!

So I was very pleased with this, but maybe it’s beatable?! :)

However it’s an honour to be the first to log a completion time on the updated network. If anyone has done so before this date, I’d be interested to know!

I think I was physically on trams for around 1h 50m - but you need to add on a 10 minute wait at Highbury Vale, about 6 minutes at Hucknall, and then also around 12 minutes to allow for the fact that I jumped from The Forest to Nottingham Station. That'd be 2h 18m. But I'm sure there's a quicker way of doing it!

But you didn't do the central bit twice, as you were there for a day out

Sorry for confusion; when I said I “jumped from The Forest to Nottingham Station”, that was code for my day out. Had I stayed on the tram through the central bit again, that would have been the 12 minutes specified. Approximately.

However, I did realise last night that I had omitted 5 minutes for the Phoenix Park turnaround – so make that 2h 23m. (It’s very theoretical, anyway!)

You mean the Victoria Centre, Listergate and Arnold stores?

The reason I visited three WHSmiths that day is that I couldn’t fit in four.
But I’d done Beeston WHSmith the evening before, so that didn’t matter… :D !!

Seriously though, I thought someone might ask that question, and it probably deserves an answer. In fact, I may do a detailed answer in a dedicated thread one day soon. But in the meantime, those who have taken part in The Journey thread at times may have got an inkling. And here's another clue. Oh, and I said this a couple of years ago...
