Is there a little walkway across the lock chamber, next to the top gates?

No - you walk across the gates. (28/40)rhubarbrhubarb wrote:Is there a little walkway across the lock chamber, next to the top gates?
Re-read your penultimate question, and my picky answer - then change one word in your question, and we're almost there...

No! (29/40) They don't have arms - they're large gates, hydraulically operated by full time lock keepers. Try changing a different word...rhubarbrhubarb wrote:Are you sitting on one of the lock gate arms?

Are you standing on the lock gate? (assuming that they are single gates, top and bottom)

No (33/40) - I think you've removed the word you needed to change. Remember, I need to get an accuracy of 1m, and lock gates are big things...rhubarbrhubarb wrote:Are you standing on the lock gate? (assuming that they are single gates, top and bottom)

Re: Where Am I? - UK Quiz #4
Well done! Got it in 34 questions! I am indeed standing one foot on each gate of the Top Lock gates at Fort Augustus! And my parents are waving at me from their living room window...
Linking in with some of the questions we’ve had, some answers were quite borderline. It’s only just northwest of the A82 (by about 100m). And in the 1940’s, it would’ve had a railway and station, right by it! In fact, a railway swing bridge went over the canal right by the top gates, but this is no longer there.
It’s a beautiful place and quite a tourist trap in the summer. No wonder my parents wanted to move there. If you ever fancy a boating holiday, I’d highly recommend the Caledonian Canal!
