Bus challenge

Evening all.

If you thought that the painstaking progress of tubes at rush hour was frustrating, how's this for a different challenge: go on as many London buses as possible in one day.

A couple of points: "going on the number 42" means "staying on the 42 for at least three stops". And to make it a little more difficult, there's the stipulation that if you go on route n during the day, then you have to go on all the routes up to route n as well. But you can do them in any order!

I'm doing something along those lines at the moment, albeit a little more leisurely and more long-term. I reckon that it should be possible to reach number 65 or so, but beyond that seems difficult. What do people think?

I'd say that it'd be fairly difficult...Doubly so if you had to do them consecutively

Just doing 1 to 10 is hard enough:

1 : Tottenham Court Road - Waterloo - Canada Water
2 : Baker Street Station - Victoria - West Norwood
3 : Oxford Circus - Brixton - Crystal Palace
4 : Waterloo - Finsbury Park - Archway
5 : Becontree Heath - Barking - Canning Town
6 : Aldwych - Oxford Circus - Willesden Bus Garage
7 : East Acton - Paddington - Russell Square
8 : Bow Church - Oxford Circus - Victoria
9 : Aldwych - High Street Kensington - Hammersmith
10 : King's Cross Station - Oxford Circus - Hammersmith

Cheers,

Barry

this is one for you joy54

i spose you could see how many you could do in x hours, consecutively even... presumably you could use trains to get between bus stops, just like in the tube challenge but vice versa?

Oh yes, you can use the tube, trains, the DLR, ferries, river boat services and your feet, but not buses 51 or higher (assuming you've decided to go on those up to 50). So it's exactly the opposite of the tube challenge in reverse, but the other way around. I may try it out sometime soon to see how feasible it is!

I think you're all nuts :P Mind u I do sometimes take the 38 routemaster from Victoria and change at Hackney Town Hall some weeknights, rather than getting the Viccy line all the way home - I'll miss them :(

I first started out on buses and had thought about doing something with them in London.

I'm not sure about the "doing all routes less than x" bit, but it might be interesting to see who could travel on the most different routes in say 2 hours.
