December 3rd the best day for record attempts

Post by palkanetoijala31 »

statically speaking December 3rd is the best day to do an attempt despite the cold and horrible light only about 7 hours max.2 records have been made on that day making it 1 more than any other day that we know of.I put this question to the tube challengers what is the best date in the year for tube challenging maybe June 21st. :?:

Of course it doesn't. You can't possibly come up with a "best date" because the same date a year later might be beset with delays and cancellations, such is the nature of the tube.

ANY day is best - you just have to get lucky.

Still, for coolness and daylight, you can't beat a nice April or early May run.

I would agree Late April / Early May or Late Septemper / Early October as these times of year offer the best ratio daylight to temperature ofr tube challenging

All my best times have been set in sept / oct
26 miles 385yards in 4h 14m 40s.

Saturday 29th December is the best day, but not according to those buggers at Guinness :(
I'm still a bit miffed by that... Other than this I would say May has to be best.
One day I shall return!

For an Amersham start, I'd say that avoiding the first Sunday in October through to at LEAST the third Saturday in December would be an idea, as that's leaf fall season on the Metropolitan Line, which means a speed restriction to 40mph between Amersham and Moor Park (Southbound), extended signal overlaps, and an effective 3 minute "penalty" before you've even started as the first train is retimed from 05:28 to 05:25.

Cheers,

Barry

Some drivers tend to be a lot slower than 40mph when traveling that line early in the morning maybe they need their 3 weetabix.

That's because they are driving to the conditions and not hammering along. Any professional train driver would do the same.
