With the closure of the ELL the South London Challenge has now become somewhat of a boring challenge. I think we should redesign this challenge to take in DLR, Tramlink and possibly London Overground. This would certainly add to diversity of routes and make it more of an interesting challenge than it currently is. By adding Tramlink (37 stations), DLR (5 stations) and Clapham Junction it brings the total to 72 stations. Discuss.....!

Sure, that can be a variation of it, but it should not replace the original challenge.

I'm not biased either way, but i do think that we can't have two different variations of this running. People would be divided on which one to try and since this is a pretty minor challenge already, two of them will just make them each even less interesting.

So if enough people like this new idea, i'd propose we agree to vote on it and then we can all follow whatever is chosen. Any changes wouldn't effect the record as it is, because as far as i know noone has even attempted the new post-ELL south london challenge!

I believe the SLC section on that to be correct, thanks to help from various other forum members.

Three of us did a South London Challenge the day before Zone 1 and got a time just outside 2 hours. I can't remember the exact details, I'll have to hope that one of my fellow participants does!

There is no other challenge that involves both the Tube and other forms of transport, to my knowledge, and I'm not sure if this should be any different - or at least, I don't think it should completely replace the existing challenge. Matt, I take your point, but if we do vote on this and agree that the South London Challenge involves DLR, Overground, Trams etc, that would not stop someone going out and doing the "old" tube-only South London Challenge and setting a completely valid time for that specific challenge. That's why I think the new challenge should have a new name, something like South London - All Modes (SLAM for short).

There is really no need for a comprehensive discussion to take place before a new challenge is devised - if you wanted to go out and visit every station that begins with the letter "F" and call it the "F-ing Challenge", you could do, without asking anyone for permission. Whether or not the rest of us will want to compete against you in that challenge is unlikely, but that shouldn't stop you doing it if you so desire. There is no limit to the number of challenges we have.

I like the sound of the new challenge but a new name is in order

It was myself, Ollie and A2 that did the challenge. We started off at Kew Gardens and worked our way across to North Greenwich in two hours six seconds.

Agreed that we should have them both and possibly have a SLAM and South of The Thames challenge on the same day......

We could start the SLAM from Kew Gdns and then maybe grab a beer and then do The South of the Thames from North Greenwich using the staggered / rally style start...... Finishing up with another beer at Kew Gdns....

Would you have to use the Rail Replacement Bus Service for what used to be the East London Line?

I would say that if we throw in Clapham Junction then it would have to be visited by London Overground (or trains that share the same track), Therefore you could arrive from Richmond on SWT and then depart to West Brompton on Southern or LO. The great thing about including LO is that when the ELL re-opens this will also be included in the SLAM challenge.

You couldn't use Southern as they don't use the same tracks or the same platform at Clapham Junction, they use 16/17 depending on direction and LO use 2, I think LO only for this challenge!
