"NOT AFRAID" - Tube Relief 2005

Post by geofftech »

Ken Livingstone has announced this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/4665385.stm

So I say ... who's up for doing a mass 274 (miss out T4), where everyone gets sponsored for this charity? And I mean ... like quite soon too - like next month (August) which should give people enough time to arrange days off etc.

It's not a 'record attempt' as such. It doesn't matter if you walk and don't run. You're not going for any particular time, you're just going for all 274 stations, and you raise money.

And we do it as a mass sense of camaraderie. All 'tube runners' out together - on the same day - in friendly contest. If you see somone else going for a train you're on, then you help them by holding the door. We're all in it together as people have died this week.

We get some press interest, we let people know about this site, we have multiple teams .. oh, and we all start at Amersham! :-)

What say ye all? COME ON!

No: "But I'm not fit" excuses. None of your "But I haven't got a route planned" nonsense. Sod that, say "yes", we agree a date, raise the profile, raise lots of cash and have a splendid feel good day doing it.

YES?? Who's on board?

I'll start : I am.

Neil?

Thank you joy54, good man.

It's just been brought to my attention though, that the Piccadilly tunnel between RS & KX may be closed for a long time - due to major structural damage and it's close vicinity to the Northern Line tunnel out of KX as well.

If it turns out that part of the Piccadilly isn't 'doable' at the time we choose to do it (next month?) then fine - we go ahead and just miss out the bit we have to miss out.

More "yes"'s please. We're going to do this ...

Can people post dates in this forum as to what ranges of week/days/dates would be good, so that we can hopefully pick a day that accomodates everyone wishing to do it.

I'm prepared to take any day off in August (weekday, natch).

I'm going to hedge and say "probably"

I think there are better starts for "do all stations" than Amersham, if you aren't trying to get them done in the shortest time possible.

I'm in.

And I believe the guy I was originally supposed to do Zone 1 with should be in, too.

--EDIT--
Said friend has said he's definitely up for it.

Also, I'm actually free throughout August, and have no plans whatsoever. Meaning any date suits me.

Could I also suggest that the designated organiser of events looks into a group hotel booking in Amersham? We may be able to get a discounted rate if enough people book for the same hotel, and it allows a night of socialising before the big event.

Which, given the fact we won't really get the chance afterwards, I think it could be our only real chance to do so.

If it IS done in August, may I suggest the last Thursday or the first Thursday in September?

If a group booking is happening then it'll need to be done very soon.

Thursday would be a good day, but it might be wiser to do it on a Friday as it will therefore mean that people might only have to take one day off rather than two (e.g the Friday as well to allow time for getting home/recovery, etc..)

Can people put in the posts here what dates are good for them please.

Senji : Can of worms! There would be a better spirit i feel if we all started in the same place. Surely you don't want to end there, do you? And don't tell me that you neither want to start or finish there!

Tricky one .. obviously people can all start where they want, but as I say .. it would being a greater feeling of 'togetheness' about what we're doing if we all started in the same place.

Still looking for more "im in's" frim you all people. Come on ...

Geoff: Yeah, I think starting in the same place is probably best, I was just wondering if Amersham was really the best same place to start in!
