One should feel sorry for Geoff, though. If he didn't have bad luck, he'd have no luck at all.

21 attempts for me and bad luck on each and every one of them even the 2 x GWR's were shocking it was just that the time was so soft a few years back... I have never come home on or under schedule or done the planned route on the day... A small list of problems I can recall of the top of my head on different attempts...

WW2 bomb found at Barking causing major problems delays on C2C/District Line
Signal Failure on Victoria line when inside GWR late in the evening causing around 20min delay
Starkey feeling unwell and we had to abort late in the evening at Oakwood when inside GWR
Driver jumping red signal leaving Queensbury and we had to proceed at slow walking pace to Kingsbury
Being held outside Woodford and missing vital connection that caused knock on effect when on schedule some 8 hours in
Drunken idiots pulling emergency switch at Tottering and Sweatsoaked late in the evening when inside GWR
Driver taking comfort break at T4 while signal was green causing us to miss T123 connection by 1 minute and GWR

I imagine the list goes one beyond that surely that is just the way the system is, to expect a perfect running day without issues and expecting trains to be where they should be at all times is simply unrealistic....

I believe you actually have been knocked out of top ten to 11th place although i can neither confirm the date or time of this attempt took place and no its not a ******** 1 or 2 attempt.
Andi - are you saying there is potentially a new world record time, or that someone has gone quicker than Sam but slower than you. I've read this thread twice now and can't quite work it out!

btw, I'm not asking you to confirm or deny who it was or their time. Just interested to know if its your time we are all still aiming for?

i would always aim lower than mine and steves time moley as so many unpublic attempts go ahead that u just dont know from day to day the time in question was not faster than that.

Top times list on the first page is now updated with the new record.

(Also, one other change (because I can), where the time has only been provided to the nearest minute, I now show the seconds as 59secs. This is so not to give those not providing seconds an advantage in the list order over those who do. This applies to the attempts of Ian McIntyre & Ian Imrie on 14/08/2013, Mike Newland on 02/12/11, and Kenyi Wang on 28/07/2008, but not Andrew Chilcraft on 13/08/2012 when the time was 18:10:00 to the nearest second.)
