A double tube challenge run and neither knew! Very consistent time there SDSoup Dragon wrote:I also did Hove Prom and Hove Park today! Didn't try to go too crazy at Hove Prom as I wanted to save something for Hove Park. At Hove Prom I found the easterly wind was a bit troublesome, first lap a managed to tuck in behind a big fella and used him as a wind break but no such luck on the 2nd lap. The big fella had pulled away and nobody else was going my pace! So the scores on the doors for the 'New Years Day Double' are:DrainBrain wrote:I had a great time in Hove.
Hove Promenade is a nice, wide, flat and fast course. I ran under 27 minutes when I was deliberately trying not to run too fast.
Then Brighton and Hove, which is kind of a beginners' hilly course. There are some hills, but they're really not that bad, and there's a very nice downhill section leading into a flat finish - perfect for fast(ish) finishers like me. Not a great time in absolute terms, but a lot faster than I thought I'd be doing on a second parkrun.
Southsea tomorrow. Forecast: wet and windy! Plus ça change ...
Hove Prom: 23:37
Hove Park: 23:25
My target for the year is to try and go sub 22 minutes but with only 5 or 6 runs possible per year this won't be easy. I'm working tomorrow so only 4 out of 5 for me over the seasonal period.

Southsea done = 5/5. Managed to miss the rain, but that wind AGAIN! Straight off the sea today, so I was effectively running diagonally.

Did the Parkrun at Bournemouth with my girlfriend (her first Parkrun) in terrible conditions. Lots of rain, wind and mud! My slowest time but that's was to be expected with the conditions.

I was going to do today's Parkrun (first for a few years) but it'd be an absolute mudfest, plus I got home about 3am thanks to train repairs on the line back from Brighton

Re: Tube Challenge parkrun league...
I decided to be a tourist again today, and drove up to Tamar Lakes (just east of Bude in north Devon). A nice, mostly-flat course on gravel paths around a lake, it is also unique in that you start in Devon and finish in Cornwall, as the county border runs through the middle of the lake. I got my best finishing position of 16th, and a much better time of 24:00. Also, second in my age group (which is my best), so I still haven't "won" that yet.

I missed this - yes, you're accruing quite a minus figure in the "streak" column ...Iain wrote:I was going to do today's Parkrun (first for a few years) but it'd be an absolute mudfest, plus I got home about 3am thanks to train repairs on the line back from Brighton

I think with all the awful weather at the mo. Unless it's all Tarmac it will be a mud fest.
Oh forgot to mention 29:19 at Penrose including the free sea spray wash on the coast path section.

I think the conditions underfoot are what prompted me to say balls to Plymvalley today. I didn't fancy another hard run up there, to be honest.

Re: Tube Challenge parkrun league...
42:01 so a PW, but more importantly I had a very strange turn when I got back to car and driving home.... Was reaching but no sick was coming up and pins 'n' needles in left hand.... I parked in Ashford to get the paper and could hardly get out of the car or walk more than a snails pace and was shivering so badly with cold. Now taken some aspirin and sat at home with 3 tops on....
My whole body just seemed to shut down and guessing may have been mini stroke..... I cant ever recall feeling so bad since I was a kid, so just pleased to survive (So far!)

Re: Tube Challenge parkrun league...
Kev, I think a trip to the doctor and a few weeks off running might be in order. Sounds like you've overdone it this festive period, and you've not had a weekend off since the end of June.
In other news, runs everywhere! We've managed 24 between us over the last two days. That's not bad.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
There's too much to go through, but Ric Brackenbury gets an honourable mention for popping up out of the blue again. Everyone except Ric, dudey, and Nozza was at a new venue this weekend, although tractakid is just showing off by doing three at once. I think his legs might have been a little tired though.
The spreadsheet took me ages this week - can we go back to one run each next weekend please?

Re: Tube Challenge parkrun league...
Hello. Remember me?
I was pleasantly surprised to see I was still being kept tabs on (at parkrun, at least). Just wanted to justify that by actually poking my head in.
Also, to justify my slow run at Canterbury yesterday, I did run the 6 miles over the North Downs to get there after the 9am Whitstable.
As you were.

Yes, I remember you. I've been noting that you've been getting faster over the last few weeks. But only 21:02 today? What were you thinking?!dudey wrote:Hello. Remember me?

Re: Tube Challenge parkrun league...
After a while away (a full time bar job and doing a masters in engineering take up a lot of time) and promising ages ago I'd do a parkrun I have now actually signed up
I have also started training again and my first (unofficial) 5km is around the 27 min mark which isn't too bad considering I haven't run properly for nearly 6 months
my local parkrun is Shrewsbury (and also my home town) and I am hopefully going to attempt one this Saturday (revision depending, I have exams the week after)
