I have heard of it before, hence why I did not get to the stage of clicking your link.

I shall use this opportunity to continually ask "what is sic?" until someone answers me in order to maintain my 'last post' position as much as possible.

"Sic" is usually used when quoting something some has said verbatim, inserting [sic] after any mistakes by the original author. This does two things: it ensures that no one thinks the person quoting it is stupid, and it makes the person who posted it look like a moron.
