Regarding buying up additional entries;
Can we reserve extra teams now, or will that process only begin once everybody has got their first ones? If person A wants two teams and person B buys up eight, meaning there aren't any more spares, that's a little unfair on person A. Perhaps, although this would be quite labour-consuming, you could allow everybody to get one team, then allow people to buy one extra one, then if there are still any left allow people to buy another extra one... that way people will always get as many as they want.

Yeah, some people don't log on every day so may miss out.
Not sure how to do it fairly. Any sensible suggestions (apart from the one you just suggested)?

For some reason, eBay gave me another idea.
My previous suggestion would have been time- and labour-consuming, so here's an easier one.
Everybody sends a PM to you saying the maximum number of teams they would like. If the total number of teams requested adds up to less than 32, then we have a problem, but otherwise, if it adds up to 32 then everybody gets the number they want, and if it adds up to more than 32 then the people who requested the most teams will miss out.
Another example - assume only three people enter.
Person A bids for 8 teams
Person B bids for 13 teams
Person C bids for 19 teams
This adds up to 40 teams, which is eight too many. To start with, everyone is allocated 8 teams - the lowest bid. That leaves twelve teams to be divided between B and C. Everyone can then be allocated an additional 5 teams, meaning Person B now has the number he wants as well. This leaves two teams remaining, and Person C has bid for 19 but has only received 13, so he gets both of them.
That was very difficult to explain - it's a lot clearer in my head than it is there. Do you see what I mean though?

I see what you mean. Let me think it through and make a decision on that one.

OK, we have 19 people signed up to this which means there will be 13 places left over at the end. I don't think we're going to get any new people signing up before the end of today.
So we have 13 places left to share amongst 19 of us. The easiest way of doing this is, as Ollie suggested but slightly differently, everyone who wants an extra place states so. In the interests of fairness, only ONE extra place per person will be allocated to start with - no buying up 10 extra places! If, after one extra place has been allocated we still have places leftover then it's first-come-first-served for the final places.
If more than 13 places are requested then I will write another computer program to allocate them randomly amongst those who have requested them. If we have less than 13 requests and nobody wants the leftovers, then I'll have no option but to buy them myself. You have been warned
Because the extra places will be allocated randomly, don't feel you can't apply if 13 or more spaces have already been requested - everyone will have an equal chance of getting an extra place, including me.
So, I think I shall declare the entries for the sweepstake closed, as not much has been going on in the last five days or so.
THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTERING INTEREST FOR AN EXTRA PLACE IS 4PM NEXT WEDNESDAY - THE 7TH OF JUNE. We need all this in place before the first game kicks off I think.
And, for the record - I would like to request an extra place.

Yeah, I'll have one too. What did we agree on in the end, money-wise? 2 or 3 quid?

Oh, by the way.
If a player draws two (or all three) teams that finish in the top three places at the World Cup, that person WILL win the prize for all positions his teams occupy.
So anyone drawing Brazil, Italy and England will win the lot if Brazil beat Italy in the final and England win the third place play-off match (or any other combination thereof).
Just so we're all clear.
