Yeah I also vote for Geoff. Im well up for this one its for such a worthy cause.

But erm, Geoff says 274 but if the picc for example may still be partialy shut in August, obviously it would be less stations than that. I imagine this has all ready been mentioned but I havnt yet read all the posts, just putting in that im up for it.

Im more than willing to run with somebody if there is anybody who's fearing the thought of going solo as everybody starts to go their own routes.

I also agree with going on a Thursday!

Right Geoff - it looks like you've got the gig.

(Just make sure you run it past me too - I like to be kept informed :D)

On a separate note - Geoff is going to set up a separate page on his website for this thing. A similar thing may appear here but how many people are going to crawl out of the woodwork and want to take part in this thing?

How many people are we looking at? 20? 30? 50?!

Do we want to keep this amongst ourselves until after it's done. After all, LU might not go for this if they find out - especially in the current climate

Your thoughts people?

I've made this topic sticky for the foreseeable future. It will always be at the top of this section.

I see your valid point there.

Bearing in mind LUL are never too pleased about us charging around the tube as it is.
As its for charity it would normaly make sense to publicise it.
But I doubt LUL would be very keen.

Hey there could be a way round this tho, it could be publicised beforehand, but simply dont say that were gonna run/rush. Afterall, it seems like its just the running around the stations that they dont like. Or is that still too risky?

If we could somehow raise cash during the run itself, that would be good. Tho I doubt many of us would wanna drag coins about LOL

A standard T shirt design maybe? with details of the charity and what were doing on the front?

Well, you have to go at a minimum speed or you won't get them all in.

But then again if the Piccadilly is still off between HPC and Arnos Grove it does make things slightly easier from a number-of-stations-to-do kind of way, if not in a how-the-hell-do-we-do-that-bit way ...

Yeah true.

Ah I like feel_me_quick's idea of offloading cash during the run to a
Convenient Cash Carrying Conveyance guy.

Fun idea :D but that would involve some clever timing. Not impossible tho!
However if were collecting cash on the run, permision may be vital. Im not fussed but we'd be in trouble if cought without the go ahead.

and what's the final word gonna be on the accomodation front? a mass discountable (maybe) booking or fend for ourselves? or am I asking too early

God no - we need to arrange something and fast.

I suspect that myself and Geoff might have somewhere to stay free of charge thanks to having contacts in Amersham :-)

One in every port, or something ...

Any solo runners out there in need of a team mate type guy on the day?
(like, er, me) :?
let me know asap cos we'd obviously have to work on a revised route plan etc.
I aint gonna enjoy it once we've gone our own routes, going about alone is abit dull as most of us will know.

cheers all!

I'd have thought Nita Hurley would have been offering a Tube Challenger rate given the number of people who have stayed with her over the years, myself included.

Okay, a couple of things;

1) I suggest we don't inform LU. I'm sure that, even though it's for charity, they'd only be too happy to pull the plug. Giving last minute notice to the press may be advisable, too, to avoid them letting the big men at St James's Park know.

2) Collecting money on the way round may seem like a good idea, but unless you're actually registered with the charity, I believe you may end up being arrested. It may also make it easier for LU to stop us from doing the challenge, and ultimately lightens the load you need to carry. Pre and post race sponsorship seems best to me.

3) Is the £30 per person based on people sharing a room?

There is a Travel Inn on the A41 that I have used in the past for a stay before an Amersham start. I have a promise of a driver so if anybody wants a lift from there to Amersham this may be arangeable (subject to confirmation of dates). If quite a few stop there then a shuttle service is not out of the question.

Mrs Webb (for it is she) will also possibly be willing to stay in Euston for much of the attempt day to provide a rendevous for any drop outs, hold first aid supplies, provide a phone message drop point, monitor the operation of the LT service (providing details of delays etc), issue food etc. If anybody wants to make use of her services (oh err) let me know. Again, this is subject to confirmation of dates.

Finally, I might be bringing some Scouts with me. Any objections?

Umm, OK.

Without wishing to p iss all over everyone's parade here, just HOW many people are planning on doing this?

I can see chaos at Amersham ensuing here.

I'm planning on relaxing on a narrowboat, wishing I was there! Unless there's a radical change of dates, that is.

Anyone else want to not take part?

It's going to be busy I think :-)
