I counted my attempts and it seems I did fewer than I thought (this is excluding Tube Relief btw).

Ah yes, I forgot those, they're all members of this forum too.
Which reminds me - I must remove Rachel Brabbins, who has (as far as I know) not surfaced on this forum (yet)...

The sources for this are
http://www.*****.co.uk/tubechallenge/others.shtml
http://www.tubeforum.co.uk/record_times.html
which, when combined give, I think, six records (I believe that the first was on 25 March 1980, otherwise I have the same dates as you suggest). I'm not aware of any independent verification. Geoff and Bob Robinson were both involved in the Metroland TV programme made in 2003, which states that Bob made about 50 attempts starting in 1979. Geoff will presumably know where he got the 51-46-8 numbers from.
I think that much of the data we have were reassembled from back issues of the Guiness Book of Records (as it used to be called). A record might be missing from this list for various reasons
* The record was broken again during the same year and so never made it into the book
* This particular category did not appear in the book in the relevant year
* The volume in question was unavailable when the data were reassembled
* Human error
Official archives may exist, as originally held by the London Underground Roving Society (or whatever it was called) and also by GWR. Unless there's someone out there with the time and inclination to recreate the definitive history of Tube Challenging, it may be hard to be certain.
