Somehow, Quizzes and Games seems to be resurfacing.

Glad I was able to give the game a bit of a boost last night! I think a new strategy is required if we're to have any hope of closing the gap with QI, who are now way ahead on 1799 - forget about the "chain" stuff and just focus on getting the entries in. Hopefully we can encourage a few more people to participate this way.
I reckon it's possible to get to 2000 before them.

I'm helping out. Whenever I jump onto the forums, I'm adding to it

Just thought I'd add that "vanjeet" on QI has just followed up 1799 with 1780. If they keep playing that way we've got more of a chance than I thought

Interesting! I suppose though, if they don't call their thread 'counting', there's nothing to say they have to do it in order!

The subsequent exchange is quite amusing - clearly "bemahan" didn't spot the error! I love the comment from "tetsabb" about "possibly slightly out of sequence":

If all else fails I plan to sabotage the QI thread by posting lots of wrong numbers

Just to be clear, my "obvious fact is obvious" comment was intended as a reference to my own post about the Great Plague.
I'm also pleased to see that Guy brilliantly sidestepped the hinted obvious fact about the Great Fire of London whilst still acknowledging it.

I mentioned reflections, but another type of symmetry is rotational, and 1, 6 and 8 all have rotational symmetry of order 2.
Can I call you on 6?

Oh, back to the last-four-digits-of-an-STD-code again. How I love those entries.
Keep pressing on towards the 2,000 - I'm not going to be able to take part much over the next few weeks, but I trust the rest of you to 'keep the fire stoked'...!

(Sorry for recent absence - been a bit preoccupied recently.)
I've just looked at QI and they're on 1842, which means they need another 158 posts to get to 2000. 158 posts ago was 1684, which they got to on March 13, 99 days ago. So if they continue at the same rate they'll get to 2000 in 99 days' time. We've now got exactly 300 to go, which means that if we're to have any chance of overtaking them we'll have to average over three posts a day. Is that possible?

Let's try. I'll be out of play for three weeks after this Thursday, so keep it up, folks!

It'll be interesting when we get past the current year and can't rely on historical events any more...
