727 are the last three digits of St Albans' STD code.

Curiously enough, several years ago, some friends of mine moved to St Albans, and gave me their new phone number. It was 01727 abcdef. Back in the 1970s, when I was in Bristol, the old STD code (prior to the ones being used) was 0272, and our telephone number was also (abcdef). There was a nice symmetry about these two events connecting us: 272-abcdef and 727-abcdef.

728 can be written as the difference of two cubes in two ways: 9^3 - 1^3 or 12^3 - 10^3. It is also the sum of two cubes: 6^3 + 8^3. This makes it the smallest number that can be written as the sum or difference of cubes in three different ways (the third cabtaxi number).

729 - very intersting. Not only is it 9 to the power of 3, but also 3 to the power of 6.

[I think that's the first time two people have posted the same fact!]

730 is an American slang term for "crazy". It comes from the motion a criminal defendant would have to file in order to be examined by a psychiatrist to determine whether he or she is fit to proceed to trial.

Not much else to do there during those cold winters...

736 = 7 + 3^6, making it a Friedman number - it can be written non-trivially using only its own digits and the usual arithmetic operators. (Because the digits are in the same order, it's known as a "nice" or "strong" Friedman number.)
