This one turned up on a football forum i'm part of a couple of seasons ago and you may know of it (it might be a very famous game, i don't know).
Entry fee and prize money can be decided on.
Each 'player' (i.e. entrant) is allocated a team -- there may be only 1 player allocated to each team and each player may only have 1 team.
A fixture list is then formed for all the teams before the season begins.
Say my fixture for the 12/8 is against Root -- and asuming we have Derby County and Chesham United (note the standards of the clubs are irrelevant).
On the 12th August Derby play Hull and Chesham play Hampton & Richmond.
The goals that each club score are then 'ripped' into our results list.
If Derby draw with Hull 1-1 but Chesham beat H&R 2-1, the score is jonny 1-2 Root.
A league table can then be formed from everyone's results over the season.

A variation could be to use the goal differences from real games rather than goals scored.

Perhaps another idea, again fees and prizes can be decided.
One fixture is decided every weekend for players to predict on.
Everyone predicts on the same 1 fixture and different points are given in the scoring system of: (although can be easily altered)
Correct Result: 5 points
Correct Outcome: 3 points
Incorrect Outcome: 1 point
Again a league table is formed of players' points.

Possible variation: Everyone predicts on every fixture in a league chosen before the beginning of the season (everyone predicts on the same league). This is very difficult to organise and time consuming, though.

I like the first of Jonny's idea. The idea of seeing something like 10th October: Ware v Chelsea. superb!

The league that Kevin runs has been very good the past few seasons. It's done through the daily telegraph and the player transfers are very easy to manage on line, you can also check status of our own "Super League" as well to see how you are doing against fellow players. The standard has been quite high and teams have to be well managed if you want to finish in the top 4. However with prizes for manager of the fortnight as well it keeps the interest going even if you've fallen behind in the main league.

Over the past few seasons I've finished 1st, 4th & 2nd and raked in over £200 in various prizes... like I say the standard is high

The problem with most fantasy leagues where transfers are involved is that people get lazy and let it drop.

Jonny's first idea is excellent and I think someone should arrange something like that.

I do the fantasy anyway for several other friends and work colleagues, if anyone on the forum want's to join in as well then that will be good and the more the merrier

It is up to individual's to take it seriously or not and "keep their eye on the ball" so to speak....

Several of my regular particpants just enter a team and don't make any change's all season, while other's use all 30 transfers available...

You'd have to only allow teams that play at least so many games a season and at least once a week too. The Premiership's Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Sunday fixtures tend to mess things up too.

That's nothing. Earlier I was refreshing my knowledge of the isotopes of Uranium and Plutonium.

Did you know that only 0.7% of all Uranium found on this planet is the isotope U-235 or Enriched Uranium, the substance necessary to produce a nuclear reaction, and thus nuclear fission? The remaining 99.3% is isotope U-238, which is not reactive enough for us in nucelar power plants or nuclear weapons.

When an atom of U-238 is hit by a neutron it becomes U-239 (it can be seen from this increase in the isotopic number that the neutron is absorbed). As this U-239 decays it becomes Neptunium-239, which in turn decays into Plutonium-239.

Pu-239 is, like U-235, fissile, so can also be used in nuclear devices to produce a reaction. It is the enrichment of U-238 into U-235 or Pu-239 which is currently making people very nervous about what is going on in Iran. It is claimed that within two to four years, they will have enriched sufficient U-238 to produce a nuclear weapon.

I can't work out how to incorporate any of this into a competition on the forum though.

I was thinking of doing it with a set of game fixtures every weekend. If an involved league does not play on a particular weekend then solutions can be negotiated but most teams play once a weekend (even in the Premiership) be it Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

OK, I'll organise this.

Firstly we need to decide on entrant fees and everything and then I'll open registration.

A fiver or a tenner would suit me.
