I did nearly fall face-first down some steps on a Central line interchange on my Z1 challenge last autumn! Very, VERY lucky to have slowed down from an extremely thunderous run (I doubt I've run like that before!) to a speed that felt like a snail's pace yet still fast JUST at the top of those steps!

My feet were hurting like mad the next morning too if that could count as an injury...

EDIT: Just looked at my signature text, 15th September 2006! Bloody hell, that WAS a long time ago!

Not a tube challenge injury, but I was in London for the day about a year ago, and I was running to get on the circle line (I forget where exactly). It had been raining and as such my trainers had wet soles. I sped up as I heard the beeps for the doors, put one foot onto the wet plastic floor inside the train and promptly slid all the way across to the other door on one knee.

Just to make things worse, once I'd got to Euston, I slid onto my other knee running down the ramp to board my WCML train. The platform ramps there are of a strange tar-like substance that is treacherous when wet. The helpful man said "don't run" once I'd started running, and the problem occured when I tried to stop. It was painful for a couple of months.

I injured my knee quite badly on the 2005 Z1 challenge - I'd already given it a minor knock, can't remember how, but due to the heat of competition I decided to try to run on it when I shouldn't have even been walking on it. Result: it still plays up every now and then :(

I think we should open a ward in a hospital for all your injuries!

What about the Tube Challenge Ward? (or TC Ward)

A day or so after my first complete 275 my mouth erupted in ulcers - well over one hundred of them, and I could not eat solids for a number of weeks, and sleep was fitful.

I think it was a combination of the tiredness and stress of the day coupled with dirty cariages and a generally dirty London - living in the more 'bracing' climate of North Lancashire I do not have the same immunity levels that you Cockernees have needed to develop.

I think you have something there. I have found that during my 275 attempts my throat starts to get very dry and sore during the evening. This is too the point where speaking becomes croaky and barely audible, which is probably a relief to my fellow teamamtes

I have to say Kevin that I tend to have the same trouble as you. However due to the fact that I'm so used to clean, sparklingly pure Bath air, it only takes a couple of hours for me. For example, on Zone 1 day I was croaking at the meet-up afterwards!

(I believe that that was where I met you and Soup Dragon and Dr Who...)
