It will have to be a bit of a last minute decision for me sadly as I may have to pop into work in the morning, but I might try and join you for zone 1 later on in the day.

We haven't set a date yet the 1st has been suggested but I know Starkey, Dr Who and myself can make 29th, 30th or 31st Aug, I think Root just said 1st Sept for ease of memory... We can probably arrange this on any one of these dates....

Unfortunately I can't make 1st September at all now, I forgot the 'mighty' Gillingham were playing that night! Last week of the holidays is always a bit difficult so I will work around everyone else as it still will be a last minute decision.

Regarding the "snake challenge", ie visiting as many stations as possible without repetition, I have a new route. And it visits 136 stations! It involves changing between the Hammersmith and City and the District lines at Hammersmith; is this allowed? If so, then I'll spill the beans, and if not, then I'll pipe down.

(I'm quite happy with a 12:16pm start really; I just like whinging sometimes.)

Are we still starting at Epping and also you might want to put this post into the actual desktop challenge topic started by Hakan... If it is ok then I await you route with interest

Hi the 136 would be good but as I had to check the rules again myself here is a quote from the rules set up in the desktop challenge

Provided:
* You can only visit (or pass through) each station once.
* You must change within LU stations (e.g. you can't change between Bank and Monument since these are different stations. The same goes for the two Hammersmiths etc).
* No non-LU routes allowed (such as rail, bus or DLR).
* Both start and end stations are counted.

The first would be great for me as I am in london that day

And those few minutes suddenly turn in to a *lot* more once you start properly planning a full 275....

I reckon a good way of practising tube challenges would be to just do the middle bit - i.e. work out what the first train heading for the centre would have been, and get on that train somewhere near the centre, and then make sure you're on the train that would have taken you back out to the end, or at least could have got on it (i.e. wait at the platform and watch it arrive and go), and then you've done the difficult bit, safe in the knowledge that if the start and end sections all went fine, you'd have done all 275 as planned.

If a lot of people take part in this then there will be some long waiting times at either Harrow or Epping while everyone else starts/finishes. Maybe it would be more fun to have a mass start and see if anybody can get ahead of the pack by being quicker at the interchanges.

I will probably come along for the zone 1 part in the evening but I don't particularly see much of a point in this snake challenge at the moment.

Maybe you're right. Staggering is good fun, but it's a shame that it has to be by as much as twenty minutes per team. Obviously we'd be able to text each other on the approach to Harrow (which takes around twenty minutes).

The "see who can break away from the pack" idea sounds quite exciting. It strikes me though that each change would probably only take about a minute (not including subsequent waiting time for the next train). So the likelihood of somebody drawing ahead is incredibly small. Besides, who wouldn't hold the doors open for their fellow challengers?

Why don't we all meet up at Epping at 11:26am on the day and take it from there? I'm sure that we can sort something out that everybody is happy with.

Ah, it would be nice to gain some experience with a "professional." I feel the need to very much brush up on my tube knowledge on the off chance though. I may only try my hand at the Zone 1 but I'm looking forward to it already.

I'm going to take that as some valuable advice. I have tentatively got my start planned out and I have a vague idea of the way I want to complete the challenge [i.e as how I want to go about it] so fixing an end might be a good idea and testing that out. [/quote]

If we are starting off on seperate trains then I will bag the 11.16 but it would be fun to do a mass start and see who can be quicker to the top of the steps at harrow. Will also be there for the Z1.
