I agree. The location can be whittled down too easily without it.

How about this idea 50% lies and 50% truths the hider if asked the question are you south of thames? can either choose to lie or tell the truth.If he tells the truth on that particular question from whomever it maybe say for example Scrxisi asked the question then he has to tell the truth for all Matts questions in that paticular round or vice versa if he decides to lie.But hider must pick whom he chooses to lie and whom to tell the truth and it must be 50/50 unless odd number of people.

Andi: Am I correct in thinking that under your proposals the detectives would not only have to work out which answers are lies but from doing this which subsequent answers are also lies?

If that's correct I'd like to stick in my two-penneth and say that one lie is enough to deal with alongside deducing the stations themselves, thank you very much.

Well deducting the stations is hard enough but as u can see everyone has managed in 20 questions with no lying rule.!The point i was trying to get across was this say i was the hider and was hiding at say Victoria for example.

And 4 anonymous people say for example Going Underground,Starkey7,Soupdragon and Sam 2 of these people i can lie to for this instance i say i lie to the brown brothers for each of their questions and tell the truth to Starkey and Sam for each of their questions.

Starkey question 1 are you south of the central line.? yes truth
Going Underground question 1 are you south of the river thames yes lie
Sam question 1 are you west of the bank branch of northern line.? yes truth
Soup dragon question 1 Does ur station have the letter I in its name.? no lie

This would even work if the hider just chose 1 person each round to lie to it take u longer to work out the station and you would have to take into fact whom the person was lying to by reading the other questions.

I am sure, although I haven't tested the theory, that for every single station on the map, there are nineteen questions which will eliminate all but that station (thus allowing the 20th question to be the correct guess). Therefore, as we are proving, it is fairly easy to solve these puzzles with the current set of rules.

Although I don't want to confuse the discussion further, it does seem that we need to change something in order to keep things interesting. So I have a simple modification to suggest which should make things gradually more difficult without changing the format.

Namely: after every correctly-guessed round, the total number of permitted questions decreases by one. So, for example, if the first round is solved, the second will permit at most 19 questions. The one after that will have 18, etc. This would continue until a round is not solved, at which point the counter resets to 20.

Yes, I like Ollie's idea. Andi's is a tad too confusing even for me and my huge rulebook (Sam).

In the absence of any other authority I decree that the new rules start from the next quiz. Can whoever starts the thread put the number of questions in brackets in the title please? Something like this:

That way we'll know where we are. At some point we need to go back up to 20 again of course ...
