I bet he laughs out loud if I ask him if he wants to do a full network.

Re: Modern-day planning
Last week was honestly too mild for tube challenging. I would have liked it 2 or 3 degrees cooler if possible. The only thing I hate about challenging this time of year is the lack of daylight.
One day I shall return!

Re: Modern-day planning
I also think it would be fabulous if Geoff did another attempt, and even better if he did it with you Neil, as the pair of you are "the classic team", which i think I can rightly say without having seen any of the TV attempts, or being around in the Geoff 'n' Neil days. The two things that got me into this fabulous world were ***** and YouTube - specifically the video made by the Brown's of one of their early Children in Need attempts. My original thinking from reading ***** was "if I ever get the opportunity to meet Geoff at a challenge, I shall go." In other words, I was keener to meet Geoff the man and thank him for the many enjoyable hours I had, and still have, on his website. However I knew this wasn't going to happen, as he was in America, so never really chased tube challenging up. Many months on from my first discovery of ***** I stumbled across the video, and this made me think, "oh stuff it, I'm giving it a go even if I don't get the opportunity to meet Mr Banana Post."
Thus if you (Geoff 'n' Neil) ever want my assistance, count me in. I am, however aware that I'm far less qualified than others here, and that they deserve it more than me.
If you do restart (though I accept that this may never happen nor may it happen for a long time) then may I be the first to wish you the best of luck.

Re: Modern-day planning
Even if JP (or any other method) were 100% accurate it just depends on what happens to the network on the day: something that's beyond anyone's knowledge or control.palkanetoijala31 wrote:It can give u quite a good sense of when the trains pull out at what time but i have learnt not to trust what journey planner says.tubeguru wrote:I know this question makes me sound like a noob but I was wondering how people go about planning their full network challenges these days.
Back in 2004 when Geoff and I were planning our successful attempt we didn't have LU's Journey Planner that lots of people appear to use now. I was wondering just how practical it is to use something like that for a full network challenge.
Even if we all used the same route (imagine!) there could still be variations of anything +/- 15 minutes of the record.
Sorry, I'm stating the obvious really. Time for bed...
