Well, I was going to allow it, but then I thought "the rules say 'integer'. Is a Roman numeral an integer?"

The number five is an integer. Whether that number is expressed as "5", "V", or "101", it is still an integer.

Can you claim in binary?

No. I'm not going to list down all the valid types of number that one can claim with, suffice it to say that the ordinary digits from 0 to 9 inclusive are the ONLY valid characters that can be used. Claims must be in base 10.

If I start allowing Roman numerals, scientific notation, bases other than 10 and the such, we'll just descend into the lower levels of something that only Dante could imagine.

OK, I've made a small amendment to the rules on page ONE of this thread. Rule one now reads:

"To claim points, a post must be made to the game thread in one of the following formats:

For weed claims: "x point weed", "x weed", "x weeds" or "x points";
For bell claims: "x bell(s)".

x must be a positive integer, and cannot be subsituted as an algebraic expression or other mathematical construct. You may write the number claimed in either numerical or word format.

Clarification: The above claim types listed are the ONLY types which will be allowed. Roman numerals, scientific notation, algebra, numbers expressed in bases other than ten (binary, hexadecimal etc.) and any other weird shit you can think of are NOT allowed. Such claims will count as invalid claims, and the number of points claimed will be deducted (so, claiming for "28 weed in hexadecimal" will cost 40 points. "10 binary weed" will lose two points, and so on).
"

The ONLY formats of claim that will be accepted are those listed in bold above. Nothing else will be considered a valid claim. Hopefully that clarifies it all.

Good spot. I wonder where that went from the rules?! Hang on ...

OK, Clang has been added back in, and is a valid method of claiming bells.

Is this the start of a strange trend?

OK, because mullardo is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in a "claim", I'm just going to clarify how I'm treating your more "inventive" posts.

If your post contains the construct "x weed", "x point weed", "x weeds", "x bell(s)" or "clang" ONLY, then it is considered a claim attempt. This is as before.

However, if your post contains any of the above with other words added onto the end, then so long as any of the above are present AT THE START of the post, your post will be considered a claim for points. Claims with words added at the start will be judged individually as I see fit.

So, recently we have had mullardo offering up the following:

3 weed (rounded up to 5), and

9 weed equalisation

Both have been treated as a claim, and as such mullardo has lost 12 points for his trouble. Note that I have not calculated his first post to be five weed, as it is not normal for 3 to be rounded up to 5 without saying "rounded up to the nearest 5", which he didn't say. So ner.

The only exception to this slight change is that if you put the word "spoiler" at the end of your post, then it will be treated as a spoiler, so mullardo's somewhat ridiculous claim of:

Two hundered and ninty three trillion, four hundered and fifty five billion, seven hundered and seventy seven million nine hundered and forty six thousand and thiry one point seven eight nine one three five weed spoiler

did nothing except reset the clock to the time of his post. It wouldn't have counted anyway, as "hundered" is not a number.

Obviously, I'll be judging each post individually, as mullardo seems to be enjoying inventing new ways of testing the rules. When I collate the scores for this week on Monday I will list down all of mullardo's weird posts and explain how I have judged them.
