100,000 posts on the forum

Post by A Challenge »

We are approaching 100,000 posts on the forum, as this is post 99,881, and so I was thinking, his far has thus place come in the last 11 and a half or so years?

PS: There will of course be the ability to boast about it on this forum if one wants. To put it in perspective, the 99,000th post was by GuyBarry less than 3 and a half weeks (23 days) ago, on Saturday 4th at 10:22:51.

Any predictions for the date and time of the 100,000th?

Where do you get the number of posts from? The stat at the bottom pof the front page of the forums gives a number in the 94 thousands.
Full Network: Three completions, Best time: 17:18:18 - thanks Glen, Andrew and Rhys!
Former DLR 45 station record holder (with Glen, Andi and Stevo) - 2h:08m:57s
All lines: 46:11 (6th equal)
Zone One 2:52:51 (thanks Glen)

I think the number is being taken from the URL.

Yes - the URL goes up by one for each post made, even if it's subsequently deleted. I think the post counter on the home page only counts undeleted posts.

Which means, if I calculate correctly, that 5124 posts have been deleted since this forum was set up, or something like 5% of the total. Seems quite a high proportion.

This topic is rather compromised by the fact that so so many of the posts are meaningless drivel.

Also, I have deleted so many posts in the last 11 or so years that we went over 100,000 actual posts ages ago. :)

Is that right? I thought each post got its own unique number, even if it was subsequently deleted. Certainly that's what happens if I delete one of my own posts - the next post gets the next number in sequence.

EDIT: As an illustration, I deleted this post and reposted it. The number has changed from 99907 to 99908.

Out of curiosity, the posters of every 10,000th post are:

10,000: Starkey (a haiku from a 2006 Bottle Challenge)
20,000: Tubeguru (a review of GTA IV)
30,000: Palkanetoijala31 (answering a question about one of his FNC routes)
40,000: Going Underground (discussing an R15 twist)
50,000: Geofftech (sharing two interchange tips, both of which are now quite well known)
60,000: Iain (commenting on a 2012 FNC attempt)
70,000: Tractakid (a Google Street View Treasure Hunt post - wow, that takes me back)
80,000: Soup Dragon (talking about an appearance on TV)
90,000: Iain (again!! Posting something in The Snake thread)
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.
20½ Random 15 challenges: 01:58:48 best

As a matter of interest, how did you find that out? I can't see an option for searching by post number.
