Cannon Street Run 2015-All/As many ports poss. Fri 18th Sept

Post by Going Underground »

So it be every port on the 9 Seas, or visit as many as possible

Starting Port: Cannon Street
Voyage Start: Any time of the day as the tides be favourable

Ahoy shipmates, so that all can join the swaggering fun just get to Cannon Street when ye can for your voyage...
If ye cannot visit all the ports then just get booty from as many as possible, so ye can hoist the mainsail at dawn, mid-morning, afternoon or evening......

Arrrrrrrrrr...........

Has anyone ever done an overnight full network? I mean one where you catch trains until the final train of the day, then "tactical night bus use" comes into play (as Tangy says), then you start at your new starting place. I'm asking for three reasons:

1) Full networks starting at Cannon Street may not be completed before the last train of the day as Cannon Street is a Zone 1 station.

2) Cannon Street Runs are evening events (I believe) so a FNC completion will definitely not be possible before the last train of the day (unless I'm missing a trick that will rip the current record into shreds).

3) It's an interesting idea!

If you can explain away all my points (especially point 2), I will start researching a route immediately, and here's to shaving 10 hours off Andi's record.
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.

One problem is that the 19th September 2015 is a Saturday....

Sorry perhaps one of our kind modearators can move to Alternative chat....

Indeed all Cannon Street Runs have been evening events previously but that doesn't mean that they have to be in the future....
That is why you have 2 years notice and the idea is to treat this the same as any other full network that you would start at either Amersham, Chesham, T4 etc.....

A completion should easily be possible barring major problems....

Also with regard to the date The Cannon Street Run has not always been held on Talk Like a Pirate day anyway, so the ideal date would be Friday 18th Sept... 8)

Rules are there to be twisted

Take the first District train through to West Kensington and then run to Kensington Olympia. I think pretty much everyone should do that.

Hmm. My current thinking is that if I'm going to spend 17+ hours and invest in a full network I want it to be as optimal as it can be. Cannon Street will obviously not be optimal... But hey, 2 years is a long time away. Who knows what I will think then? I am expecting to be the record holder by at least 2 hours, obviously. In that case I may well attend. Or tube challenging may prove to be a passing phase and I will instead be cultivating my newfound interest in Chinese calligraphy.

Point 4 thats if i did hold the record which i dont!

So who of ye is coming to this, me mateys?

(OK, after Southsea parkrun too, that's enough pirates.)

My rough plan is to stay over somewhere fairly central Thursday and Friday night.

On Friday I'm holding short of an FNC, but going for a fairly leisurely route to visit well over 200 LU stations, starting at about 7am from Cannon Street.

Then on Saturday morning I'm up for a parkrun somewhere, before I check out of the hotel and head home.
