"Take That, Dr. Beeching!" - a story from Borders Railway

Can you identify a station from just a paving slab? Sadly, some people can

"Take That, Dr. Beeching!" - a story from Borders Railway

Post by RobbieM »

  • The Borders Railway from Edinburgh to Tweedbank will start running passenger services on Sunday 6th September. This is wonderful news, and if we could write a short story to celebrate the opening, perhaps Guy could forward it to his Rail Forums friends… There are ten stations on the route. Ladies and Gentlemen! You all know what do you… Off we go:
Craig spent a lot of time watching his sister Elsa in swimming GALAS. “HI ELSa”, he said, as she emerged from the changing room. “Well done for winning the 200m breaststroke!”

They headed out of the Leisure Centre, past the Information dESK. "BANKsy's new 'Dismaland' theme park opened last weekend" said Craig. "Fancy a visit sometime soon?"

Tsk! Left with the hardest one again...

"Oh look, I've just seen the Duke of EDINBURGH. WAVE!"

R. LEYton, professional Duke of Edinburgh impersonator, waved back as they sped off to lunch...

I've really no idea. They take so long to come to a decision about anything...

Tube Challenge Forum approach: Here's a silly game I just thought up. Does anyone want to join in?
Rail UK Forums approach: Here's a silly game I just thought up. Now all I have to do is submit it to the committee of three "quizmasters", hope that one of them reads it, hope that they don't assume that the other quizmasters have already responded, wait for them to confer with each other, wait until one of them gets back to me, hope that the forum's quota of games hasn't been reached yet, then wait a bit longer because it's the holidays and no one's ready to start yet...

Do you realize we wrote almost the whole of "Off the Rails" while I was waiting for a response? (And I am not making that up.) I'm surprised they haven't tried to blame leaves on the line :)

Anyway, what should we call this mini-tale? As it's the re-opening of a closed line, perhaps we should call it "Take That, Dr. Beeching!"

Yes, that sounds all right. Do we have a title for the Island Line story?
