Two Bethnal Greens
It occurs to me that TfL is now responsible for two completely separate stations called Bethnal Green - the Underground and Overground stations. They're not within easy walking distance of each other. Shouldn't one of them be renamed, as happened with Shepherd's Bush?

Not within easy walking distance? They're less than half a mile apart!

Well OK, but they're not like the two Hammersmiths or the two Paddingtons, or even the two Edgware Roads. Anyone looking at the map and believing that there was an interchange there would be somewhat disappointed.

It used to be called Bethnal Green Junction, so call it that again. Simples.

Re: Two Bethnal Greens
That implies it serves more than one route, which it hasn't since the Shenfield platforms closed 70 years ago.
It should be called Weavers Fields, which would keep up the tradition of having station names that make the area sound much greener than it actually is (as per Cambridge Heath, London Fields, Hackney Downs etc).

Re: Two Bethnal Greens
There's precedent for this with Dalston Junction, which is still called that despite the fact it hasn't served more than one route since it closed back in 1986.greatkingrat wrote:That implies it serves more than one route, which it hasn't since the Shenfield platforms closed 70 years ago.

There used to be a curve allowing trains from Broad Street to head east on the NLL towards Stratford as well as west.

Re: Two Bethnal Greens
Of which when the ELL was re-built through Dalston Junction there is passive provision for Dalston east curve to be re-instated at a later date. If you stand on the southbound through platform at the north end you will see a bit of dead end tunnel...
