World Cup Sweepstake Entry Fee

Post by tubeguru »

OK, folks.

The only thing I can't decide is the entry fee for our sweepstake. I initially thought £2, but then a few people suggested £3 may be better.

So, let's vote on it! No need for huge explanations - just vote for £2 or £3 and whichever is greater on June 2nd will "win".

I don't want to put people off by having it set too high, but on the other hand a £96 pot sounds quite tempting.

All vote now! (Polls close June 1st).

(If you still haven't entered, please register your interest in the other thread - there are still places available!)

Can I ask what the 1/2/3 prize division is going to be?

I think a £50 first prize would be grand, and even though a £2 entry fee would cover that (just - £64), that'd leave very little for second and third places. I'm going to vote £3.

I was thinking 55% to the winner, 30% to second and 15% to third.

That would mean £52.80 for first place, £28.80 for second, and £14.40 for third.

So each amount is roughly (if not exactly) 50% of the amount above it.

That's the final decision on the splits - you could spend hours fiddling with a calculator to get silly exact amounts.

If there's a tie, do we have a £2.50 entrance fee? :P

Yes. I had already thought of that.

So there won't be any arguing if that happens :-)

What sort of calculator do you have that takes hours to work out 100 * 4/7, 100 * 2/7 and 100 * 1/7? :)

No - he means working out the exact percentage you'd need to end up with prizes of £50, £30 and £16, for example. Which, incidentally, would be 52%, 31% and 17%. So not hours then :P.

Well, it appears that the lure of big money has tempted everyone into voting for £3 :-)

OK, it's June the 1st and I think this poll has reached a conclusion.

£3 an entry folks. So now you know before you request an extra place (see other thread).
