On the southbound Northern line from High Barnet. Driver must have been new, as when he reached West Finchley he started going north - back up the line. Has this ever happened to anyone?

How on Earth did you work out that the driver must have been "new" to have done that?

The signaller would have had to have set the route and signals knowing he was going to do it. You can't just change ends and drive off in the opposite direction.

He didn't head down the train. He must have put the train into reverse. He didn't get very far, though.

Ah, that throws up all sorts of interesting questions. Such as can you actually motor in reverse in a 95TS train? I know someone who will know for certain.

Was this before or after the doors had opened?

After the doors had closed - just when the train should have been moving off.

When did this happen? And it moved backwards AFTER the doors had closed?

Yes, it moved backwards after the doors had closed. Happened just after 2:30 today.

OK, my friend will look at the daily report tomorrow and let me know. She was held at Kentish Town because of some sort of problem at West Finchley earlier, as it happens.

Are you sure it was at 14.30?

Well it was just after. I'm not sure exactly. I know it was 14:24 from High Barnet - the bus I was on reached High Barnet at 14:24 and I only just had time to get into the station, touch in and get on before the train left.

OK, info passed on.

How far would you say the train reversed?

I seem to recall reading of an incident at the back end of last year when some sort of maintenance carriage broke loose and started rolling back down the slope north of Euston/Camden-ish, can't remember the details, and they put trains behind it into reverse. I'm vague on the details so could be wrong.

I'm interested to know what the report says :)
