Diplomacy online game (safe version on Facebook)

Post by Soup Dragon »

Has anyone ever played the board game Diplomacy? I've found an online version of the game and have set up a game for tube challengers.
Anyone wishing to join please PM me and I will send you the link and password for the game.

I've now found a safe version of Diplomacy on facebook, here is the link to the game:

If you want to join the password is: GWR13

I have played before, and I quite like the game.

Fairly easy, you only start with 3 or 4 units and on each turn you issue orders for your units to either Hold, Move, Support.
The idea of the game is to capture 18 supply centres, but unlike the game Risk there is no luck or dice involved.
Before each set of moves are declared there is a period of Diplomacy in which you can chat in secret to other players and try to form alliances.
Once the diplomacy period has finished and all the orders are in the pieces are then moved.
Each unit has the same value, so if two units of opposing armies are moved to the same territory then there is a stand-off and neither units would move, however if one of the units has support then they would advance. The site does have further details on the rules which are easy to follow. The thing I like about the game is the diplomacy period when you can try and form alliances with fellow players, of course you don't have to honour anything agreed in these sessions and you can stab other players in the back, but be careful not to make too many enemies if you adopt this strategy!

Not really, that game is more like Risk. The game of Diplomacy is set in Europe in 1900, with 7 countries aiming to dominate Europe.
I will PM you details of the game.

The site is checking out okay on McAfee, no problems on my home PC anyway?
Does your work PC allow you to go on game sites? I know the Air NZ computers would never allow it.

Well if anyone else wants to risk checking the site out to see if they can find any problems the address is www.playdiplomacy.com
I'm currently playing a couple of games on the site and don't seem to have any problems from it.
So far the game set up for Tube challengers just has me & tracktakid registered, we need 7 players to start the game.

My anti-virus software immediately blocked a virus coming from this website.

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Serious problems with this... My IT dept cleared the problem for me to work yesterday but when I logged in this morning it had returned and again I could not access outlook or internet explorer or any of my documents.. When they arrived at the office the managed to clear it again so I could work but IT have spent all day trying to find a permanent fix... This looks really nasty
It was showing something like worm32??

Well, AVG either didn't spot anything or I got lucky. Probably best to abandon those plans.

Anyone want to come over? Image
