The Anti-Tube Challenge
Well, you clicked on it. I'd say this was possibly more tiring than the full network (enjoy Moor Park).
The principle of the Anti-Tube Challenge is to visit the full complement of 270 stations, with one very important condition:
At no point in the challenge must a person set foot on a London Underground train. Shared line trains are fair game (e.g. Overground train from Queen's Park to Harrow and Wealdstone), but any London Underground train results in immediate disqualification.
As with the standard full-network challenge, you can use your feet or any method of public transport (both TfL and non-TfL). Private transport is also banned (cars, bicycles, skateboards etc). As I said above, enjoy Moor Park...
Anyone up for it? Better make sure you've planned this well - this challenge will take well over 24 hours to complete (just giving you fair warning).

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
What counts as a visit? Passinh by on a bus or actually going through the gate line?

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
You have to take an exterior photo of the station from street level (as in the Park Challenge), so if you can do this from a passing bus, good for you.

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
I'm intrigued by this idea, might have a look at a route.
I've also got an idea for riding all the buses - judging by your name you've either done it or have it in mind?

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
I'm not going on all of them exactly. I'm missing out the night buses (I like to be awake in the day and asleep at night), the mobility buses (which come once a week) and the school buses (which travel twice on schooldays) - which brings me to 544, I know, but I found myself with an opportunity to catch the 573.
I'm doing it in a slowly expanding circle from the centre - not the best way of doing it, but since I live in Central London there is no real other way to do it - it's not the Tube Challenge which can be done in a day.

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
Moor Park? Look up bus services to Moor Park. Use Google Maps, Tfl, Traveline South East - the only way to get to Moor Park is by underground, or by substantial walk/run from Northwood. Epping, Theydon Bois, Croxley and Watford can all be reached by non-TfL buses. Rickmansworth to Amersham can be doubled up by c2c, and Chesham is well-linked with Amersham with non-TfL buses. All other stations are on the London bus network - it's connecting them that's the headache.

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
There are some London stations that are not served by bus - Arsenal and Barons Court for example. Not as far as Moor Park from the nearest bus stop though!

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
There are some rather posh houses round Moor Park. I assume residents wouldn't want to ride the bus with the "Riff-Raff"!

Do the residents of Moor Park USE buses?

Presumably they subscribe to the view that Margaret Thatcher was reputed to have held that a man over the age of 26 who finds himself on a bus can count himself as a failure.tubeguru wrote:Do the residents of Moor Park USE buses?

As far as we can get with the Streetview car. Still another half a mile by road. Might make a good start to the Anti-Tube Challenge - because let's face it it's quite depressing to run 1.4 miles from Northwood and then to run the same distance back the way you came. Run to Northwood, bus to Watford High Street, then another along through Watford, Croxley to Rickmansworth, Chiltern to Amersham, bus to Chesham and back, Chiltern to Harrow-on-the-Hill. Then, let the fun commence.

Re: The Anti-Tube Challenge
Perhaps the day to do this is when there are rail replacement buses running to Moor Park. Surely then it must receive bus calls.

The day to do this? If you're doing this in one day...
Anyway, if you use rail replacement buses it's a separate record to set. Because let's face it, rail replacement buses to either Moor Park, Chesham, Epping or Watford will speed up your time by a lot.
