Boris Johnson has tweeted this in a Q and A session:

"yes we are going to extend the northern line with work beginning by 2015 ..bakerloo to follow #askboris @ThornyITFC"

Speculate away: northbound or southbound?

Southbound - already seen some speculation on taking it out in a Lewisham direction but there are several ideas out there

I believe there was a proposal at one point for a northern branch to Ealing Broadway, replacing the Central. The Central would then take over the Richmond branch from the District.

I'm struggling to visualise how that would work - would the Northern take over the Central from TCR to EB? And if so would the West Ruislip chunk of the Central be left separated from the section to the east of TCR?

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear: I meant a northern (small N) branch of the Bakerloo, from Queens Park to North Acton, with a Central branch from Shepherd's Bush to Turnham Green. These were in the Central London Rail Study of 1989.
