Another Quick F1 Quiz

Post by tubeguru »

OK, following the overwhelming success of the last "quick quiz", here is another quiz from the same F1 magazine. This is from their 200th issue and once again, if you read this magazine then please refrain from entering the quiz or I'll know you're cheating. This is especially true judging by the level of knowledge displayed in the last quiz.

1. Who started their 200th Grand Prix at the 1990 British GP?
2. Who was the first driver to reach 200 career points?
3. The 1971 Monaco GP was the 200th World Championship race. But who won it?
4. Ferrari scored their 200th F1 victory in 2007 with which driver?
5. Which circuit held its last GP in 1996 (the year the magazine in question launched)?
6. Which of these drivers has not led 200 or more laps in F1: Giancarlo Fisichella, Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Irvine?
7. Who is the most recent addition to the elite club of drivers who have started 200 more more GPs?
8. Which tyre manufacturer is the only one with more than 200 wins?
9. Which driver has scored the most pole positions over the 16-plus years of the magazine in question (in other words, since the first issue in March 1996)?
10. I was the oldest driver on the grid in 1996. I scored nine podiums, but never won a race. Who am I?

Answers to be PM'd to me please. Once again, there's no closing date - I'll just keep pestering you. No cheating with Wikipedia/Google et al!

I might enter this if you give me another day or two. I've just come back to Finland after a week away. I'm not sure I know any of them, but I'll make some guesses again.

OK, so that seems like that for this one. I've had five entries, and here are the answers you should have given:

1. Who started their 200th Grand Prix at the 1990 British GP? Riccardo Patrese
2. Who was the first driver to reach 200 career points? Juan Manuel Fangio
3. The 1971 Monaco GP was the 200th World Championship race. But who won it? Jackie Stewart
4. Ferrari scored their 200th F1 victory in 2007 with which driver? Kimi Raikkonen
5. Which circuit held its last GP in 1996 (the year the magazine in question launched)? Estoril, Portugal
6. Which of these drivers has not led 200 or more laps in F1: Giancarlo Fisichella, Ralf Schumacher, Eddie Irvine? Eddie Irvine
7. Who is the most recent addition to the elite club of drivers who have started 200 more more GPs? Jenson Button
8. Which tyre manufacturer is the only one with more than 200 wins? Goodyear
9. Which driver has scored the most pole positions over the 16-plus years of the magazine in question (in other words, since the first issue in March 1996)? Michael Schumacher
10. I was the oldest driver on the grid in 1996. I scored nine podiums, but never won a race. Who am I? Martin Brundle

And the answers that WERE given:

greatkingrat:

1. Riccardo Patrese - Correct
2. Fangio - Correct
3. Graham Hill
4. Schumacher is too obvious, so I'll go with Massa (Which team was Schumacher driving for in 2007 then?)
5. Kyalami
6. Fisichella
7. Trulli
8. Bridgestone
9. M Schumacher - Correct
10. Gerhard Berger

steeevooo

1. Andrea de Cesaris?
2. The obvious answer given how many times he won is Fangio - Correct
3. I don't even know who was racing in 1971!! Was Jackie Stewart or James Hunt around then? Lets go for Stewart - Correct
4. 2007 - would that be Raikkonen? - Correct
5. I'm torn between Argentina and Portugal for this, but I'm going to go for Portugal based on the fact that I can name the circuit - Estoril, as opposed to Argentina where I don't know the name (and I know you will want to be specific) - Correct
6. One in three chance - Ralf Schumacher?
7. At a guess, Jenson Button? - Correct
8. I'd assume Goodyear given the time they were in F1 for. - Correct
9. Given the reign he had from '94 onwards, I'd be surprised if this wasn't Schumi. - Correct
10. Christ, I can't think of any old guys from '96 that would have scored 9 podiums but no victories! Andrea Montermini?

snudge27

1. Roland Ratzenberger
2. Jackie Stewart
3. James Hunt
4. Kimi Raikonnen - Correct
5. Brands Hatch - That was 1986
6. Ralf Schumacher
7. Rubens Barrichello
8. Bridgestone
9. Michael Schumacher - Correct
10. Nigel Mansell I suspect you thought this question only applied to 1996 ...

Starkey

1. Damon Hill
2. Damon Hill
3. John Mansell
4. Villenerve
5. That one in Madrid
6. Schumacher
7. Jordan
8. Duckhams?
9. Damon Hill
10. Fred Flince

Root

1. Nelson Piquet
2. Jim Clark
3. Jackie Stewart - Correct
4. Kimi Räikkönen - Correct
5. Estoril - Correct
6. Ralf Schumacher
7. Jenson Button - Correct
8. Bridgestone
9. Michael Schumacher - Correct
10. I'll guess Jean Alesi, but I'm not sure if the question means that the driver scored nine podiums and no wins in 1996 or in his whole career. If it's the latter, then I'm definitely wrong.

I admit that the wording of question 10 might suggest that it applies only to the 1996 season. However, the use of the phrase "never won a race", as opposed to "didn't win a race" made me think you'd all realise that. Anyway, Brundle it was.

And the scores:

steeevooo - 7
Root - 5
GKR - 3
snudge27 - 2
Starkey - 0

Steeevooo scores an impressive 70%. I bet he won't do so well in the next quiz!

I bet I won't too! It just seemed that I could have a reasonable guess at almost every question from that set!
