Fewest interchanges

Post by andytube »

What's the lowest amount of interchanges that you guys have done for the full network challenge? Just knocked up my first route, has about 55 interchanges. Is that too many to warrant getting a good time?
Current best: 19:51:10 (2014). Hopefully that will be broken in 2018 :-)

who knows whether it get u a good time in theroy less changes means less waiting time i did have a route that only involved changing i think 32 times in a day but i did do whole branches in that route.

Mine and Iain best route involves 46 changes. Mind you, as said, it's your projected time that's more useful measurement.

As a general rule, I try to avoid introducing interchanges into a route. As the the analysis of my last attempt showed, waiting for a train to arrive is the second biggest element of time in a challenge, and every time you change you introduce a new opportunity to wait and lose time. I think my last effort had about 45 changes, but the key to success is to be flexible, if, for example, you see a useful train coming in cross-platform you weren't expecting, it' can be worth revising your plan to take advantage.

An unexpected coss platform interchange SHOULD have been very useful on my last attempt... buuut the following train was incredibly late.
