The only possible way would be to have an identical stopwatch running for an extra hour or so, and present THAT one to the Swedes at the end of the day...

Exactly. Which won't match their own stopwatches and so they'll smell a rat.

So it's not going to be easy for me to cheat them of a time is it? :-)

We were brought up believing that English sportmanship is impeccable - and I haven't been proved wrong yet!

(Well, young Beckham's unfortunate behaviour in his first WC being the exception.)

But WE will supply the stopwatch so any false stopwatch would be very obvious to us! :D

Not presenting any stopwatch would a problem for us though...

A certain "********" springs to mind as a good example of how NOT to be British.

And on a side note, Beckham may have kicked out but Diego Simeone fell over as if he'd just been hit by a tube train.

No. Only way would be to buy 3 or 4 identical stopwatches, and start them 10, 20, 30 and 40 minutes earlier than the main one. But you'd need to know exactly what stopwatch they're going to bring along. All in all, probably not worth the effort :D

I've got an idea.

Why don't I take the one they give me and start it as the first train leaves Amersham?

It may work ...

I reckon that's a pretty damned good idea!

Perhaps rather when the door closes? That way we'll follow GWR rules!

Well quite.

I'll be employing some people to hold you back from setting foot on the platform at the finishing station so the stopwatches can't be stopped :-)

Err... doesn't the challenge finish when the doors open rather than when the challenger leaves the train?

I believe current rules state that it finishes when all the challengers ar eon the platform at the final station.

It used to be "start when first train moves, finish when last train doors open", but now it's "start when first train doors close, finish when everyone's off the last train". I think.

Speaking of wonderful GWR:

The rules, allegedly from March -05 states that "British Rail" can be used as a substitute for tube on certain segments. Does BR even exist?

They also state clearly that the W&C is NOT INCLUDED in the challenge (seems to date back to the last century). The profound implications of this are somewhat foggy to me, since both Waterloo & Bank clearly must be visiteded...

(Note that I'm intentionally not mentioning that other thing about "geographically separate stations")

Do they do allow you to visit in person? That may speed up the painfully slow correspondance
