Re: Early stage/thinking
Useless for record attempts, as it would probably not make any sense for fast times and those secret connections, but if your goal is simply to complete it should still be feasible with a (very early) terminus start.
The first tube out of Upminster should get you in to West Ken in time to get one of the early Olympia departures. (if you don't mind a slow jog)
Either that or hope you catch an evening one!

Put is this way - when Aldwych closed I was older than most active tube challengers are now! (And I can still beat most of you on the long runs!)

Re: Early stage/thinking
First attempt at planning a route, theoretical 19h 11 with no delays O_o Listed are sall stations where a change is made, hopefully you can follow it.
Upminster, Baron's Court, Kensington (Olympia), Earl's Court, Wimbledon, South Wimbledon, Morden, Borough, Elephant and Castle, Edgware Road (B), Edgware Road (c), Earl's Court, Kings Cross St. Pancras, Walthamstow Central, Finsbury Park, Caledonian Road, Cockfosters, High Barnet, Finchley Central, Mill Hill East, Finchley Central, Bank, Monument, Baker Street, Stanmore, Edgware, Leicester Square, Green Park, Brixton, Green Park, Stratford, Hainault, Woodford, Epping, Ealing Broadway, Acton Town, Heathrow 123 via 4, Heathrow 5, Acton Town, Turnham Green, Richmond, Hammersmith (D+P), Hammersmith (H&C), Paddington (H&C), Paddington (Bak.), Harrow and Wealdstone, South Kenton, Preston Road, Uxbridge, West Ruislip, Hanger Lane, North Ealing, Rayners Lane, Harrow on the Hill, Watford, Moor Park, Chesham, Chalfont and Latimer, Amersham.
Hmmm, I dont mind spending 19 hours doing it if I get a completion, but a route who's optimal time is 19 hours, will likely take longer due to delays and therefore may not be completed.
All this was done according to the Journey planner on 16/12/11, a date I picked after the revised Olympia schedule. The good thing about this route is that if I miss Olympia, i'm relatively near it when the evening services run.
Any thoughts you are willing to share?

Re: Early stage/thinking
First thoughts (and remember I'm new to this too) is that there's a lot of doubling back - some's unavoidable but I think there's some you can avoid. Have a look at an A-Z to see if there are quicker ways on foot, and have a look at alternative modes of transport like trains, buses and even trams to see if that can cut out any time. HTH
