why bother objecting, you still would have only got 3 questions correct, so it doesnt alter the resultsSam wrote:The Dutch Flyer goes to Hoek of Holland though. There are no services to Amsterdam. I object.

Re: The Sunday Quickfire Quiz 6
It's the way the question is worded... To me it says can you get a SERVICE to Amsterdam from Liverpool Street, the answer is no as there is no train which would take you to Amsterdam. Like GKR has stated, just because you can get a through ticket, it doesn't mean that there's a service!Soup Dragon wrote:why bother objecting, you still would have only got 3 questions correct, so it doesnt alter the resultsSam wrote:The Dutch Flyer goes to Hoek of Holland though. Anyway, these quizzes wouldn't be the same if someone didn't argue about the answers...

Please note, though I am willing to discuss the questions, please remember they are just for fun!

They will never be "just for fun" on this forum. We are too pedantic for that.

Does this mean that there is a service from St Ives to Turkey Street?

Re: The Sunday Quickfire Quiz 6
Well this is it. There is no direct service, so that means you have to complete the journey using MULTIPLE SERVICES. This is what is at the heart of the arguments over this question. A "service" is usually taken to mean a journey one can make using ONE train, without changing. If one changes, then one uses TWO services. If they change again, you use THREE services, and so on.
So, there is not "a" service between Amsterdam and Liverpool Street. If there were "a" service, it would have to pass through into France, through the Channel Tunnel and then find its way to Liverpool Street. As there is no such service, one can only complete this journey by using trains and boats. Each of these trains/boats is a SEPARATE SERVICE. Therefore, the answer to the question is technically YES, but only if one states that these services comprise boats and trains.
The question is the equivalent of a modification to Starkey's question, "Are there train services between St. Ives and Turkey Street?"
The answer is yes, but you must qualify the answer by saying that you must change trains, and use multiple services, as there is no direct service.

Re: The Sunday Quickfire Quiz 6
The point of the question was to quiz if you knew the Dutchflyer service existed and that it starts at Liverpool street station. Simple
