The Nazis claimed they were right, and we all know how that turned out. Not sure how that relates to ginger hair, but let this be a warning from history.

OK, I said I'd sort this out today, but I've been busy all day and I have to be up at 01.30 tomorrow. Thus, I won't be long out of bed. However, I've sorted everyone's answers out, so all I have to do is calculate the scores. Bear with me ...

OK, the long-awaited answers!

Here are the answers I received:

1. Name one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The Colossus of Rhodes - greatkingrat, Starkey, jbom and Rich Tea G (4 points each)
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon - SoupDragon, scrxisi and steeeevoooooo (3 points each)
Statue of Zeus at Olympus - jamesthegill and Root (2 points each)
The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus - uefacup81 (1 point)
The Lighthouse of Alexandria - palkanetoijala31 (1 point)
The Temple of Artemis - al (1 point)
The Great Pyramid of Giza - Sam (1 point)

Other possible answers: none.

2. Name a constellation of the Zodiac.

Leo - jamesthegill, jbom and al (3 points each)
Virgo - palkanetoijala31 and scrxisi (2 points each)
Libra - SoupDragon and Root (2 points each)
Pisces - Starkey and Rich Tea G (2 points each)
Capricorn - Sam and steeeevoooooo (2 points each)
Aries - uefacup81 (1 point)
Cancer - greatkingrat (1 point)

Other possible answers: you know the others - can't be arsed to list them.

3. Name an English monarch who ruled between 1500 and 1649 inclusive.

Root, greatkingrat, jbom and al - Mary I (4 points each)
scrxisi and Sam - Charles I (2 points each)
Soup Dragon - Charles II (1 point)
jamesthegill - Henry VIII (1 point)
Starkey and steeeevoooooo - Edward VI (2 points each)
Rich Tea G - James I (1 point)

Incorrect answers:

palkanetoijala31 - Richard Cromwell (8 points). Richard Cromwell was Lord Protector of England, not monarch. Plus, he became Protector in 1658.

uefacup81 - Lady Jane Grey. I struggled with this one. At first,I decided to rule this an incorrect answer as her accession to the throne has always been disputed. Plus Edward VI tried to alter the succession made law by his father, Henry VIII in the Third Act of Succession. His letters patent were not considered sufficient to overrule the right of Henry's heir to the throne - his daughter by Catherine of Aragon, Mary. Therefore, so far as I am concerned, LJG was "Queen" of England in name only. However, having thought about it overnight, I feel that it's not conclusive enough one way or the other. Therefore, uefacup81 gets half a point for trying. BUT then if he gets half a point then that halves his score, which isn't fair, so sorry, 8 points. (I was typing this as I thought it through - bear with me).

Other possible answers: Henry VII, Elizabeth I

4. Name a James Bond film in which the title role is played by either Sean Connery or Roger Moore

scrxisi, jamesthegill and steeeevooooo - Moonraker (3 points each)
jbom and Rich Tea G - Octopussy (2 points each)
SoupDragon and uefacup81 - Never Say Never Again (2 points each)
Root - For Your Eyes Only (1 point)
greatkingrat - Thunderball (1 point)
palkanetoijala31 - A View To A Kill (1 point)
al - The Spy Who Loved Me (1 point)
Sam - Goldfinger (1 point)

Incorrect answer:

Starkey - The World Is Not Enough, (that was Pierce Brosnan) (4 points)
Note - Never Say Never Again may not be an "official" Bond film according to the geeks, but it had Sean Connery playing James Bond, so it's a valid answer.

Other possible answers: Dr. No, From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice, Live And Let Die, and The Man With The Golden Gun.

5. Name a street on a standard UK Monopoly board (one which makes up one of the coloured property sets only; no stations, utilities etc.).

jamesthegill, scrxisi and jbom - Vine Street (3 points each)
Soup Dragon and Rich Tea G - Pall Mall (2 points each)
Root - Coventry Street (1 point)
greatkingrat - Fleet Street (1 point)
palkanetoijala31 - The Strand (1 point)
Starkey - Whitechapel Road (1 point)
al - Pentonville Road (1 point)
Sam - Oxford Street (1 point)
steeeevooooo - The Angel, Islington (1 point)

Incorrect answers:

uefacup81 - Bow Road - you meant Bow Street didn't you? (6 points)

Other possible answers: Old Kent Road, Euston Road, blah blah blah ...

6. Name an English county whose name ends in "shire".

Root and greatkingrat - North Yorkshire (2 points each)
palkanetoijala31 and Starkey - Northamptonshire (2 points each)
jamesthegill and Sam - Gloucestershire (2 points each)
jbom and Rich Tea G - Cambridgeshire (2 points each)
scrxisi - Herefordshire (1 point)
SoupDragon - Derbyshire (1 point)
al - Worcestershire (1 point)
steeeevooooo - Staffordshire (1 point)

Incorrect answers:

uefacup81 - West Berkshire, which is a local government district in the ceremonial county of Berkshire, governed by a unitary authority (4 points).

Other possible answers: loads. Look them up (yeah, lazy I know ...)

7. Name an Abba song which went to number one in the UK or the Republic of Ireland between 1974 and 1981.

SoupDragon, jbom and al - The Name of the Game (3 points each)
greatkingrat and Starkey - Knowing Me, Knowing You (2 points each)
jamesthegill - Waterloo (1 point)
uefacup81 - Summer Night City (1 point)
Root - Chiquitita (1 point)
scrxisi - One Of Us (1 point)
Sam - Dancing Queen (1 point)
Rich Tea G - Fernando (1 point)
steeeevooooo - The Winner Takes It All (1 point)

Incorrect answers:

palkanetoijala31 - Honey Honey, which didn't even chart in either the UK or Ireland on its release in 1974. It may not have even been released in either of those countries (6 points).

Other possible answers: Mamma Mia, Take a Chance on Me, Gimme Gimme Gimme, and Super Trouper.

8. Name a country which has won the Eurovision Song Contest between 1980 and 2010 inclusive.

jamesthegill and Starkey - Israel (2 points each)
palkanetoijala31 and Sam - Finland (2 points each)
jbom and Rich Tea G - Serbia (2 points each)
SoupDragon - Latvia (1 point)
uefacup81 and al - Luxembourg (2 points)
Root - Turkey (1 point)
greatkingrat - Italy (1 point)
scrxisi - UK (1 point)
steeeevooooo - Yugoslavia (1 point)

Other possible answers: Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Estonia, Ukraine, Greece, and Russia.

9. Name a football club who have won the FA Cup four or more times.

uefacup81 and jbom - Wanderers (2 points each)
jamesthegill and greatkingrat - Aston Villa (2 points each)
SoupDragon - Wolverhampton Wanderers (1 point)
Root - Newcastle Utd (1 point)
Starkey - Liverpool (1 point)
scrxisi - Blackburn Rovers (1 point)
al and steeeevooooo - West Bromwich Albion (2 points each)
Sam - Arsenal (1 point)
palkanetoijala31 - Bolton Wanderers (1 point)
Rich Tea G - Doncaster Belles (1 point)

Note: As I didn't actually state which FA Cup I was talking about, Rich Tea G gets a point for Doncaster Belles. I know that the women's competition is specifically called the "FA Women's Cup", but I'm willing to let his answer stand. Good work at spotting that loophole.

Other possible answers: Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City, and Sheffield United.

10. Name a US president who has taken office since 1920.

SoupDragon and jbom - Herbert Hoover (2 points each)
Root and scrxisi - Jimmy Carter (2 points each)
jamesthegill - Richard Nixon (1 point)
uefacup81 - Warren G. Harding (1 point)
greatkingrat - Harry Truman (1 point)
Starkey and steeeevooooo - Bill Clinton (2 points each)
al - Calvin Coolidge (1 point)
Sam - George Bush I (1 point)
Rich Tea G - Lyndon Johnson (1 point)

Incorrect answers:

palkanetoijala31 - J Edgar Hoover, the head of the FBI from 1935 to 1972. Doubtless you meant Herbert Hoover (4 points).

And so, the points:

In ascending order, with the winner at the top:

Sam - 8 points
al - 36 points
Root - 64 points
scrxisi - 96 points
SoupDragon - 96 points
greatkingrat - 128 points
Rich Tea G - 128 points
jamesthegill - 144 points
Starkey - 256 points
uefacup81 - 768 points
jbom - 13824 points

jbom was the only person who didn't find a unique answer to any question, thus his massive score.

Anyone got anything they want to argue about?

Okay, I'll raise the issue of Lady Jane Grey.

On the official site of the British Monarchy, she's listed as having been a monarch (see here) so surely that has to be the highest authority?

The Bow Road/J. Edgar Hoover answers are a little less clear cut; is there a precedent for ruling according to 'clear intention' on the forum? If not can I have half points (i.e. 3) for it?

I read this question as asking for a Monopoly property that ended in "Street" rather than just asking for any Monopoly property. Might explain why Vine Street was popular.

With regard to Bow Road/Hoover, it's as clear cut as the clearest thing that was ever cut. There is no property on a Monopoly board called "Bow Road" and J. Edgar Hoover was never president of the USA. Both are 100% wrong answers.

OK, Lady Jane Grey - are you telling me that the website of the Monarchy has the absolute final say in this? Who wrote that site? The Queen?

I am still torn as to whether Lady Jane Grey was ever OFFICIALLY the Queen of England. Let's look at the pros and cons.

Pros

- She was "proclaimed" Queen and "accepted" by the Council as Queen
- Edward VI issued letters patent in an attempt to overrule the Third Act of Succession so he could name her as his heir
- Enough people believe she was Queen, thus implying that there was some kind of legitimacy which has remained in our conscience all these years

Cons:

- She was never crowned Queen
- Her accession to the throne was in direct contradiction to the law (Third Act of Succession), which many scholars have argued can not be overturned by letters patent, even if issued by a reigning king.
- She was more or less coerced into it by the Duke of Northumberland and was an unwilling claimant
- As the website you quoted says, on Edward's death the country rallied to Mary, leaving Jane with no support

On the whole, I am minded to side with the cons. However, I can see an argument in the pros too, so because this will just become a pointless argument, I'll go with your suggestion and award you three points for it. I'll have to just recalculate the scores ...

How did you work out that half-points is three? Surely it's four.

Oh, that was referring to the Monopoly question. Clearly, half points for LJG would be four points.

You're not getting a different score for the Monopoly question - you got it wrong!

But I will reduce your score for LJG and give you four instead of eight.

Anyone want a round three? And do you really want me to add/multiply the scores from the first two rounds together?
