I'm off down to The Emirates on the 25th to watch the mighty Ipswich book their place in the Carling Cup Final.
Having not been there before, and given that I might end up with a bit of a rush to make the last train back from Liverpool Street, how would you recommend getting there and back in order that I don't get stuck in massive crowds? Is it worth the walk to Highbury and Islington in order to avoid the crowds that there'll be at Arsenal station?

Re: Arsenal fans
I would say the easiest way would be to take the train from Liverpool Street to Highbury & Islington. Simple and straightforward and gets you to the station you need in one train after the game
EDIT: Or take London Overground to Stratford and pick your train up from there

Who operates that train? I can't see it on the normal high-frequency map.

I think Sam is getting confused with the First Capital Connect service which runs to Moorgate, not Liverpool Street (although they are fairly close to each other). The last train is 2150 from Highbury so probably won't be much use unless you decide to leave early when Ipswich are 3-0 down.
Overground from Highbury to Stratford is probably your best bet (assuming the Ipswich train stops at Stratford).

I happened to be wearing my H and Y scarf and shirt on the day that I returned from Poland after new year. And as it happened I passed through Finsbury Park at just the right time to be surrounded by hundreds of them leaving the Manchester City game. They were rather subdued, but very friendly.

Re: Arsenal fans
Your best option is to travel down to Liverpool Street, take Central line to Holborn then take the Piccadilly line up to Arsenal
You end up not too far off the Emirates and just follow the crowd

The reason he was asking was to avoid crowds so you recommend the most crowded route....

My advice is to take the quickest route and therefore increase your enjoyment of the evening. Stay at home.
