Underground Masker vs. Acton Town Depot (images)

Post by CrunchySaviour »

Here are a few web-sized images from my trip to Acton Museum Depot today.

Thanks to Fimb, who took the pics, and David Scard who gave us an impromptu tour and let us have a look in many of the cabs.

Geoff - you weren't the one having to take the pictures as fast as possible before anyone noticed!

*laughing*

I have to say, I laughed more yesterday than I have for ages.. until I attempted to fracture my skull on a shelf that was..

Anyway, my pics are in a flickr set now and can be viewed at

Interesting to see that London Transport Museum use non-MDA Entry forms. Do they still use separate Transfer of Title forms, despite the proven advantages that the EMMS combined forms have?

Me and my friend had a good day at that depot thing on Sunday, after we eventually got in. Another very good thing about the day was having a very nice driver on the Ealing - Acton shuttle who let us look out of his window and told us about the trains sitting in the sidings and things! A Piccadilly driver was also telling us about the trainstops, etc. We did, however, miss our train home when we got evacuated from Bank station later on.

I'm a museum data management consultant, so, the short answer is Yes. Poor data management (see picture of blue form above) can lead to all sorts of legal problems in the future...

er, well as well as what you see on the form I hold in the pic, I had to sign two other identical documents along with the print on the back of the one in the shot. we do have a computerised system obviously but when you donate an item you generaly wont have a computer with you

and put it this way, we havnt lost any of the registered hundreds of thousands of items yet! thus shows our system works perfectly. anyway lets not get into a geeky discusion about data systems!!!

next time anybody goes to a depot open weekend, you'll see one of our tube relief printed shirts in the objects store with all the old uniforms & stuff. Neat eh!

They/we we're glad to recieve/donate it. but no more please

Next open weekend is in early march (LT in Minuature). It'll be well worth a visit! Seriously now
guess who has driven a piccadilly;-)

This "model weekend" does sound excellent. I hope there are a number of working models there, and I also hope that a bit more of the ride-on Tube train is complete by then (get building, Fimb!).

yeah we are planning to extend the trackwork early next year in time for LT in Miniature but have a massive problem with knot-weed! lets see eh.

anyway yeah you've guessed right LT in Miniature always has plenty of models (trains that is!!) plus the usual depot stuff.

But be warned this event does prove to be very popular so pre-booking is a good idea
