The Beginning
I have browsed the forums and looked at the rules but couldn't find a definitive answer to the following.
Does an attempt have to begin by leaving a station?
OR
Could one leave Chalfont and Latimer, start the clock when arriving at Amersham / Chesham, then run to Amersham / Chesham ?

Re: The Beginning
It seems to me that this rule was written with the assumption that someone would start by leaving on a train rather than by arriving on one and so is not entirely clear.scrxisi wrote:Your clock would have to start when the doors close on your train from Chalfont & Latimer as this is the first train you are taking. The Rules wrote:7 - The clock must start the moment the doors close on the first train taken by the challengers. It must stop the moment the challengers set foot on the platform at the last station.
What's wrong with the run between Amersham/Chesham? Is it just the distance, or are there unspeakable creatures roaming the countryside?palkanetoijala31 wrote:

I think it's clear that the watch would have to be started on initial departure from Chalfont.Could one leave Chalfont and Latimer, start the clock when arriving at Amersham / Chesham, then run to Amersham / Chesham ?

Re: The Beginning
Subtley different, as the tube to T4 is just your transport to the start. A similar situation would be you trying to start by arriving at HT4 then running for the Heathrow Connect. In your case, your start is departure T4 in the normal way.
I tried that the little bugger of a train left without me it would have left 13 mins down on plan only right at the start.

Drifting off-topic, I know, but do you have to buy your ticket before you board Heathrow Connect? If so, you'd perhaps need to buy one in advance on the off-chance that you turned up at T4 (or Ealing Broadway, if going in that direction) at a suitable time in the hour.palkanetoijala31 wrote:Subtley different, as the tube to T4 is just your transport to the start. Travel is free between the Heathrow terminals Dr no need at t4 from Ealing broadway direction that does apply.jbom1 wrote:Drifting off-topic, I know, but do you have to buy your ticket before you board Heathrow Connect? The Distance too far and like West Ruislip to Ickenham the temptation to pop into the 2 pubs is too great.A2 wrote:Both clearlyUsername wrote:What's wrong with the run between Amersham/Chesham? Re: The Beginning
That indeed is the idea, though some of the apparent gain might be jeopardised by the infrequent service and also having to work both Ealing Common and West Acton into the resulting route. Were you to want it for some sort of Ealing Broadway gambit, I believe you can buy on the train no porblem, but don't quote me on that!

Re: The Beginning
I believe the question about starting your watch on an arriving train has already been sent to Guinness and they have clarified that the watch must be started on doors closing on a departing train.
One day I shall return!
