Ladies and gentlemen, I hearby announce that today is Snow Day!
The message my friend told us on Messenger this morning. How was the snow where you live?
Here, the 12/12A/13/13A bus services were terminating at the bus station instead of continuing to the Ely area (they are cross-city services) due to the new bendy-buses getting stuck in the snow (6 of them! ). Buses have also been told to stick to the main (busy) roads and not serve certain areas. Also, schools and colleges were shut here and the shops where I live were bombarded with snowballs!
Up here we had no more than 3 inches, and that was primarily in isolated areas.
The 468 to Knighton was stopped for at the least the morning, and the 461s going onwards to Llandrindod Wells were certainly not running either! Whether that changed by the afternoon I don't know. I do know my Mum is stuck in Llandrindod Wells doing another day of work there as she couldn't get home (or the relief worker couldn't get there, one or the other), so it can't be too good!
A Land Rover had fallen onto its side on the side of the A480 between Mansell Lacy and Moorhampton (on the 461 bus route between Kington and Hereford) this morning, as well as an accident involving two cars that looked like they hit each other head-on on the B road between Weobley and the A480.
Don't know what happened trains-wise up here, but I can assure you that delays were bound to have been a major factor today! Indeed, I'd not be surprised to hear the Heart of Wales was shut off for the day...
Most schools in Hereford were closed, although some were open. Indeed, one school-going child this morning was told by our driver that he might as well go home as the school was shut! One was seen waiting for the 0748 461 to Kington near Mansell Lacy in the snow this morning. Only problem for that person is that the 0748 was noted at Stretton Sugwas running near 25 minutes late! I feel sorry for that person...Apparently all of the schools shut eventually.
Herefordshire College of Technology, which my brother attends, was shut today, so he had a nice and lazy day at home...
My Gateway to Work tutor failed to turn up, meaning I had a bit of a c**p day until after lunch, when I found THE perfect job for me...Spent most of the afternoon filling in the application form, which will be finished with some professional advice on the last section I need to do. It'll be off in a First Class mailing tomorrow afternoon, that's for sure!
Snowed for most of the day in this area, albeit lightly.
Unofficial Z1 challenge, 15th September 2006, 1400 start - Result? 3h29m34s. Disgusting! I want a re-run!
Snow was quite heavy here in West Norwood. As i'm about 30-35 mins away from uni on a good day, I decided it was not possible to get there!
I know that Southern and First Capital Connect suffered severe delays from the snow. Steve travelled to his uni from mine and there was an "additional service" to Sydenham, but this was around 50 minutes delayed so not really an additional service!
I'm just hoping that the snow is going to stay away now because I really don't like it
Kent can be a bit of a magnet for crap weather, in my part of town the schools were shut and we had about 8 cms or so. Sadly where I work the weather was worse and the main road had only been gritted on one side so it took ages to get to work and my school only had about 200 kids in.
I think South Eastern Railways went into meltdown quite early on, just a typical day for them then.
I had to drive back to MK from Colchester this evening.
Believe it or not, it was a great journey, with the M25 and M1 as empty as I've seen them in rush hour! Although there was clearly snow in the fields around, the major roads themeselves were all clear. Then 10 minutes from home, the snow hit, and I headed into my estate which was covered in a fresh blanket of snow.
Milton Keynes really is the most beautiful city you know...
Maybe a couple of inches in West London which as usual caused severe disruption to the tube....
I believe that many people swiped their Oyster cards at station entrances and used credit only to get down on the platforms to find there were no trains
Not sure if TFL are refunding or not??
Back roads were a bit dodgy but main roads ok and journey to work took no longer than normal...
Also I heard that some schools were closed a few miles away in the Weybridge area......
Nearly all the snow has gone now...........

I think we have turned into a country of moaning wimps. A few inches of snow and everbody wants the day off work/school. I left Worthing at 6AM and got to Heathrow by 8AM. 60 miles of my journey was through snow, and the roads were fine just a bit slushy in places. The fact that some schools are still closed today is absolutely pathetic, the snow used to be much worse when I was a kid and the schools never closed.
I reckon that a few bone idle teachers just wanted an extra long half term break and couldn't be bothered to get out of bed for a couple of days

That's exactly what I thought when I heard there was snow coming, I even took some coursework home to mark in case I had two days at home
Way back when in 1987 I had two weeks off school because of snow, fantastic!
TBH because of the 'wheres there a blame theres a claim' culture some schools are advised to close because the snow will jeopardise the health and safety of students.
My college closed today at 12 because the snow was getting too bad. Then we had to wait 20 mins for a bus and then another 15 mins for another bus after changing at the hospital...and the driver was the most obnoxious (i think thats how you spell it! ), rude person I ever met. He wouldnt let people on a half empty busm despite them waiting for upto half an hour. His response when asked 'why'?
Well I'm due to finish now for lunch but I still got to do Tremorfa!
After that, he shut the door in the person's face and drove off.
After that, I went to the park with my friend and we had loads of fun including a 'war' in which I won
