Nice-looking station! Where is it?

Can you identify a station from just a paving slab? Sadly, some people can

Echo

Post by RobbieM »

Right, I'm waking up from my slumber - sorry for the long delay.

I'll try to give answers to station Echo at the weekend - a few more days if anyone else wishes to submit an entry.

Station Echo - Answered

Post by RobbieM »

Okay, the Echo has finally died down. And well done to everyone who correctly identified it as Pontypridd!
Everyone being … trains500.

And the bonus? Well, 6.2 miles from Pontypridd, you’ll find Ystrad Rhondda station. And what’s special about it among all National Rail stations? It’s the final station in alphabetical order!

Well done to everyone who got the bonus correct too.
Everyone being … trains500.

Well, I feel like dancing the Station Foxtrot before today’s out! So if you do too, then grab your partners… 😊

No, I had no idea where it was.

Oh well. I think the next one will be reasonably easy. Coming very soon...

Station Foxtrot

Post by RobbieM »

Okay everyone, strictly come and take your partners for a dance!

You may remember, back in dim, distant ‘Station S’ time, I mentioned that ‘Everyone loves a good station roof’. But be careful if you try to dance the Station Foxtrot on this one….

I’m sure it’s pretty gettable, so:

• Name Station Foxtrot.
Bonus: Identify the location from which I took the photo.

Get your votes to me by PM! 😊

I'll be offline for a couple of weeks from Thursday. In the meantime it seems this dance is a bit harder than I thought it would be.

I'll give the main hint on my return. For now, I'll let you know that Foxtrot is a pretty big, very well known station, and the distinct curves at the ends of the two straight train sheds may be your best clue for now.

Station Foxtrot - hint

Post by RobbieM »

Right, back to the dance floor from my sleep. The Foxtrot needs a hint!

It's a big station (obs) with lots of platforms. One of these platforms takes passenger services in one direction only, but interestingly, there is no corresponding platform to take services heading in the other direction.

(And it's not Polesworth, by the way!)

Foxtrot closing soon

Post by RobbieM »

Okay, a few days left on this examination. (I know some folk may be concentrating on exams from other school systems at the moment, so there may be fewer entries. :D )

I'll probably give the answer Sunday. Last chance for guesses!

Station Foxtrot - Answered!

Post by RobbieM »

Thank you for the dance, folks – it’s now finished, back to your seats!

So, the hint talks about it being a big station – indeed it is; there are ten terminus platforms. But I also referred to another platform which isn’t a terminus, a platform which takes trains in one direction only…

…and if you ever travel Merseyrail’s Wirral line, you’ll probably know that when trains cross under the Mersey to Liverpool city centre, they travel round a one-way underground loop, then back to the Wirral. One of the stops on this loop is Station Foxtrot, which is Liverpool Lime Street! (I told you it was well-known!) Here’s the original uncropped photo to give you a bit more context.

It’s a photo I took back on January 8th this year, but from where? Well, it’s the bonus answer: I was at the viewing platform of the Radio City Tower, otherwise known as St John’s Beacon. Here’s a photo of the tower, so you can see it in all its glory.

I didn’t want to make it too easy, but maybe it was a bit harder than I’d anticipated. Nevertheless, well done to A Challenge and Michael_Churchill, for getting both station and bonus correct.

Now, if you fancy a game of Station Golf, that’ll be swinging by soon. There are some parallels with station Foxtrot. Watch this space... :D

Station Golf is teeing off...

Post by RobbieM »

Here we go then. I took this piccy just a few weeks ago on 9th May – it’s another station photographed from above. But unlike Foxtrot, you don’t see much of the roof this time. So, it’s probably easier to play a game of Station Golf here than at Foxtrot – no glass panels to smash!

• Name Station Golf.
Bonus: Identify the location from which I took the photo.

Answers on a PM, please! 😊
